'Goulburn View'
Pastel on sanded paper – (dark blue Colourfix) – 35cm x 50cm
Another in my Goulburn River series of paintings. I liked the ‘depth’ provided by the tree branch and it was late afternoon (my favourite time of day, providing soft light).

Linda Ridpath
WOW, Is this the Goulbourn bridge again? your colours are wonderful and the light is great…
Lynda Robinson
Ummmmm – Linda I DID upload another Goulburn Bridge painting, but then I swapped it for this one which doesn’t have the bridge in it! You were too quick for me dear!!!! I will put the other one back another day!
Jean Hildebrant
Very pretty, Lynda! My favorite time of day, as well!
Lynda Robinson replied

thepaintedsoul
Gosh Lynda, this is gorgeous. I have to ask. .. how much time do you invest on the larger pastels? Medium-sized? Just curious, because they look really fresh, yet so well developed.
Lynda Robinson replied
Good question TPS! Sometimes a smaller work can take even longer than a larger one. Depends on the subject I think. I don’t really ‘time’ myself – I just keep going until it looks right! With pastel having no ‘drying time’, you can just keep going (until you drop with exhaustion)! I should actually time myself just out of interest. I might leave one for days and then go back to it, and start on something else in the meantime.
Roachelle Playle
another fantastic pastel!
your very talented.
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you so much Roachelle. You are always so nice to me.

Jim Phillips
Believe this or not I use to years ago do a lot more detail work than I do today, but never with the pastels. I’m really very impressed.
Lynda Robinson replied
Many thanks Jim. I try not to be too detailed but it doesn’t work! I would really love to be more ‘loose’ and free with my work (sigh)! Next year I am determined to be more experimental.
Hidemi Tada
trees, trees, and trees. i cant do this kind of work. but I have to overcome someday. great work as usual Lynda.
Lynda Robinson replied
I don’t believe it Hidemi! You CAN do trees!

Wow ! the luminosity & shadow detail ! Extreme highlights and the differences in surface textures which you have masterfully created, your eyes are definately Wide open !!!!!!!!!!!
Lynda Robinson replied
Thank you so much Lorus. What a great piece of feedback!
Josh Townley
Wow, beautiful. Seeing work like this makes me want to just leave uni, and throw myself back into art. Some day I want to learn to work with pastels, or paint, or something other than just graphite and charcoal.
How long would something like this take you?
Lynda Robinson replied
The way you work with charcoal, you would have no trouble with pastel. In fact I have no doubt you would make some fantastic pastel paintings. You have a great artistic future Josh. Dunno how long this one took me. They vary depending on size. The fact that you can keep working makes it a fairly speedy process. Coupla days maybe? 16 hours?
Shakira Rivers

Andy Beck
This is fantastic, its as real looking as a photo but with the added qualities of a great piece of artwork. Congrats on this excellent drawing/painitng – what should you call a pastel on paper anyway?
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks for a fabulous comment Andy. According to something I read at the National Gallery in Canberra, a pastel is a ‘drawing’ if it is not blended, and a ‘painting’ if it is. This makes most of my work ‘paintings’!
Andy Beck
In that case, wonderful painting Lynda, I’ve not tried using pastels since I was at school, you have inspired me to try using them again soon…
Lynda Robinson replied
I am so looking forward to seeing the results then Andy. I reckon you will do some wonderful things with pastel. I think it is a fantastic medium, and no cleaning up (only yourself!) brushes/palettes, or waiting for paint to dry!
Rahul Kapoor
Lynda Robinson replied
Thanks heaps Rahul. That is very kind of your and I am extremely flattered.
