'Above Hughes Creek'

Pastel on burgundy Colourfix sanded paper. 70cm x 50cm

Hughes Creek is a beautiful creek which flows through the Highlands area of Northern Victoria. I have spent some lovely camping trips here with my husband. He cooked the meals, I painted. What a wonderful arrangement!
This was painted towards the end of summer, a time of year that I love, when the Australian landscape turns to green and gold.
This painting won the major award ($1,000) for Best Artwork in the ‘Under Central Skies’ Tallarook Art Show 2007. It also won the People’s Choice award.

I reckon this says even more about the drought than photo’s ever can. For me it was the best. This is how Australia is and you draw it really well. Especially you gave the whole view of the land. Great composition. So well expressed. It’s like I can walk there. Almost real. but with more character.
