I really admire the following quotes…….
“The artist brings something into the world that didn’t exist before, and they do it without destroying anything else”. – (John Updike)

“Art is not what you see, but what you can make others see” – (Edgar Degas)

I live in Victoria, Australia and I have enjoyed dabbling and daubing since childhood. Although I do not have any formal qualifications, I have learned much just by ‘doing’, from observation of my surroundings, and from reading books and visiting galleries. I took up painting seriously in 1985 and gained enough confidence to start entering my work in shows, with excellent results. I am now totally hooked and if I don’t do something ‘arty’ at least a couple of days a week I get snappy!

My work is influenced by a love of the environment and country life. I am attracted to subjects in the first instance by the way light interacts with the surroundings. My subjects are varied ranging from animals, landscapes, figurative, portraiture, life drawing and still life. I find the challenge of painting water particularly enjoyable.

I have experimented with all mediums, but pastel has emerged as my favourite. I enjoy the versatility, vibrancy and immediacy of this medium and the effects which can be achieved by blending colours together and ‘scumbling’ one colour over another. I welcome your comments on my work and I constantly strive to improve.

The idea is to raise funds for the Hilldene Fire Brigade, a group of voluntee…

Lamp & Lemons Still Life - Work in Progress

Yesterday (18th February 2014) I did a painting in a day, and took photos as I progressed through the various stages. I thought this might be of interest to RedBubblers. I started working on this at 9.00 a.m. and finished at about 4.30 p.m. with a half hour break for lunch! / This is pastel on Mi-Teinte Tex paper (55cm x 35cm approx) and because I didn’t like the beige colour, I used som…

Apologies for my absence!!!!

Just a quick message to thank you for all the recent comments, and sending my profound apologies for the delay in replying! I have visitors from the U.K. here and have been heavily involved in babysitting my grandchildren as well, so RedBubble activities for me have been extremely dismal for a couple of weeks. / Landscape Artists, thanks for continuing to add your works to the group ‘Lands…
