Barred Owl – Strix varia
Image taken Nov 10/09 at Presqui’le Provincial Park, Brighton, ON Not Cropped
This owl was quite accommodating for pictures after I finally found him but there were so many branches distracting from the subject that I removed them in PS and added a more pleasing texture .

Owls traditionally hunt at night or dusk but they will come out on cloudy days in the later part of the afternoon as I found out. The voice or call is unlike anything I have ever heard in my life……..almost like a terrorized child. This handsome bird is stocky in build with a 21 inch wingspan.

Nicely composed close up of a Barred Owl! The tree bark nicely compliments the Owl’s feathering and is used as camouflage by the owls. : )

  • thank you Sandy…………..this one’s not painted, lol
