My Mink

My Mink

This delightful little female popped out in front of me and at the time I just happened to have my camera in hand. She was about 20 feet away and was just taking a look around…...........naturally I froze still as possible and zoomed in quickly. I had about 15 seconds before she was gone. They are amazingly fast and move like a snake. It is common for the mink to manage 3 dens and use them at various times of the year. Each individual requires an area equivalent to 30 acres to sustain them.
This is a natural photo in her natural habitat. ( I used a 70 – 300 mm lens and zoomed closer. f 5.6, exposure 1/400 sec, ISO 400, maximum aperture 5, metering mode – pattern )
Location of image – Ottawa River, Pembroke, ON where Muskrat River and Ottawa River join.

My Mink belongs to the following groups:

That is a really good capture. well done.
I think a lot of people do not realise how much patience and luck it takes to capture wildlife. No matter if it was taken in the wilderness , a wildlife reserve or a zoo. I think it is often more difficult to get a decent zoo shot, as most zoo animals are totally stressed or depressed, just check out the many wildcat shots on RB

  • Lynda McDonald replied

ty CJ, no zoo, natural habitat, ottawa river is behind her, she only popped out of the water to look around

Hi Lynda - cna’t believe I missed this one before - what a great photo of a real beauty—and how great that you had your camera at the ready - I saw a pair this summer at my father’s house in Indiana – got a bad photo of them crossing a stream on a log and then they came to within a meter of me but they were in long grass and no photo - still it is so wonderful to be that close to such a beautiful and graceful anima; - really cool photo - dave
