Inspired by the seventeenth day of the Lent study “Atheism for Lent –

The concept that “God is dead” is a difficult one and one that is too easy to jump to conclusions over its meaning, in particular how a believer should take it. Here I tried to reflect the idea, using symbols from my first image of this series, and that have been popping up a few times, that reflect “idols” of God.

These are what must be put to death, as it says in the study, “The god-product must be put to death in its idolatrous form. And as such the radical community must enact the death of the god-product in the very heart of their gatherings. Here the role of the church is to enact of the death of this god so that we might confront the reality of the human condition. Not so that we will be crushed by it but so that we might be able to rob it of its sting.

For God is dead and we must kill him.”

There has been a study done on people who believe and those who don’t. There seems to be a gene for this leaning for one side or the other. I thought that was very interesting. I have a friend who is a non-believer and came from a family of devout believers. I am from one believer and one non-believer. I feel there is a higher power, but not sure if its God, but I believe in the existence. Funny how that works out. :o) Great work. Great series.
