Death , bereavement, open house, lifetime scattered.

Gone and Forgotten

Inspired by a recently witnessed event when an elderly neighbour of many years passed away. Surviving predators open the entire house to an invading public, and ‘disposed’ of all contents, down to the last. A lifetime of treasured things, and a history of this persons life, wiped out in one fell swoop of greed.

Harsh reality summed up in six words. Sorry to hear about your neighbor Marion. Death always brings out the vultures.

Being a hopelessly nostalgic person Marion, I find that just so, so sad.

So sad, greed is not a nice thing, brings out the worst in people. The first two words are Very close to home at the moment, I can relate very much. :-(

A few days after I moved to my new house, an elderly and unknown neighbour died.
All his life went away in a furniture van…

I’ve been there – my aunt died in the summer and her house and her life were reduced to a few photographs in the space of a few days. It’s heartbreaking.

did you know a similar thing happened when Bob Marley died.Though not arranged just done.People just came into the house and took bunches of his stuff. His (oops can’t remember who)wife or mother, mother I think, was so overcome with grief she didn’t realise what was happening. One of the saddest things I’ve ever heard.

The predators are totally dreadful, and that is what happens when people love Materialism, Lifestyles and Stuff instead of loving those whom they should love.

Hey we had an old aunt who beat this phenomenon. She lived to 102 but not before she had given away all her important stuff to family members who she knew would appreciate it. She gave my daughter a little chest of drawers her father had made for her during the depression and told her the story behind it so naturally it is treasured now. The secret is to deal with it before you go and not have too much stuff.

She sounds like a very canny lady PG, the other solution is to leave a detailed will. Most people don’t even have one, believe it or not…perhaps, like the people mentioned here, they think they will live forever. shrug

disturbing tale, but it happens all so often.
I was upset when a very dear “old” friend tried to give me her stuff, I hated the thought of her dying, now I realize why it was probably a great idea…..(and am glad she did!)

I agree Wendy. It may sound almost morbid when someone begins to give their things away before the end, but far better this way than the other, I think. Thanks for stopping by.

My motto: Try to give while you live so you know where it goes. The lady was smart and didn’t want her family and friends fighting over her possesions. The more you have the more sense it makes.

I’m ripped open with the sad facts that your nearly wordless poem and insightful description exposes.
You have somehow managed to give a memory of justice to her soul with this little piece of writing.
