Apparently Pandas love sawdust.
This lad, known as Wang Wang, had been rolling around covering himself with it just moments before a woman in a bright pink jacket caught his eye. Pandas must like pink too.

Very cute – must get to see them

  • Hey Shaz, good to see you!
This was our first visit too. When we arrived for the viewing the bears were locked inside & I had to shoot through the glass. Was hard going trying to get a decent shot as it was highly reflective and you had all sorts showing up in it including the huge tv screens running in the bg. The keeper was really cool and told Geoff & I to come back if we were still around later in the afternoon when they were definitely going to be outside. If you go, ask to go to the 3.45 pm session (or ask when they’ll be out), you can chose which session you’d prefer though not many know this.
    Cheers :)

Marion you got there!!! Wonderful…..and what a super shot. We had the same glass issues when we went earlier this year -hope to get back again ‘soon’! xo

  • Thank you ver much my dear, and yep, we finally made it to see them – but what a crazy set up it is. We were lucky though, the 2 keepers overheard me speaking to another photographer about how difficult it was to get a decent shot and they suggested Geoff & I to come back again at the time they knew the Pandas would be let outside. There were a lot less people there later in the arvo too. Will definitley be keeping that in mind next time we go.

Oh this is just so wonderful!!! I’m so glad you got to see this. I have always loved Pandas though I’ve never actually seen one up close. Lucky you – and you got such a fantastic shot too Marion – sawdust and all!

  • Sincerest thanks dearest Lianne, I am so pleased you like it, & I really hope you get the opportunity to see Pandas one day, I could have spent a great deal more time with them that’s for sure. As it was we were fortunate to get to see them twice in the one day, (visitors are usually only allocated one session time to them upon entry to the zoo), but thanks to the very understanding keepers who acknowledged the dilema we managed to see & photograph them outside as well…keep your eyes peeled my friend as there are more pics to come :)

Great shot Marion, i know how hard it is trying to get a decent shot of these guys! The glass sucks or there are too many people or they are sleeping! (or more than likely i did not have enough paitence on the day :)).

  • I can vouch that patience is a much needed virtue when visiting the Pandas Craig, I was immensely frustrated and I think it became rather obvious! May have been the reason why the keepers suggested we come back later in the arfternoon and they would just let us in without a ticket, (I was told they would remember me LOL!).
    Thanks so much!
