Rembrandt lighting technique achieved by using all natural light. Strong sunlight from the front, natural filterd light from the left, spot metered to expose for highlights, and dialed down a few stops.

The last, (at least for quite some time), of a series of 20 pet portraits recently uploaded.
You have done a masterful job on this Marion, that lighting is perfect, and well composed. I love pet portraits, you get so much character from them.
Thanks a bunch Craig really appreciate your vote of confidence in the whole pet portraiture process, it’s definitely not as simple as it may seem to some.
This last image is my own personal fav of the 20 uploaded. Thanks again for all your support throughout this series.

Beautiful photograph using natural light! xo
Natural is best Helen, & don’t we know it ;)
Thank you so much also for your continual support and encouraging comments throughout this series of uploads, I am pleased to say I have started to promote this side of my photography & have managed to gain some pet portraiture work again through these uploads. :)

Oh I have something to learn from you dear Marion. You are successfully pursuing your joy in light. these animal shots for your clients are completely natural and rich and amazing.
One of the reasons why I do love RB Lina, we all learn so much from, and share with one another. I am thrilled to have you as a journey partner! Thank you :))

Well I’ve learned something here from you today, my dear!! Rembrandt lighting technique….you’ve used it effectively and then some.
Your beloved pooch looks so patient and focussed …waiting for direction. Beautiful composition too – love the black background. Well done!! Congrats with your pet portraiture work.
Aaah, thank you dear Wendi and I am so pleased to know you took something else away with you from this. My Sunny girl was a peach, as usual and a fabulous model.
I also really appreciate all the support you continue to give me, it is invaluable to me and much appreciated. :)

There is a big difference between pet “pics” and pet “portraits.” Your pet portraits are professional, yet you still capture the essence of the furry friend’s character. You’re really talented at the pet portrait. No doubt you will become quite sought after by pet lovers.
That really means a great deal to me Helen, thank you! I really value your opinion on both a professional and personal level, you have always inspired me to reach new hieghts in whatever direction I have chosen. I count you as a true friend.

Another superb pet portrait. You may have found your niche. Now off you go to all the up-market pet stores to offer this service…and make yourself some deserved cash. xx
Hmm, thanks very much for the idea Sharon, and the vote of confidence. Most of my work has come through word of mouth so far but recently I had planned to begin canvasing a few vet clinics and ask to leave a few business cards on their counters, hadn’t thought about pet stores as well despite having a reasonably good rapport with one already! Well, now I have a few options, and now this post has made me think of several more. Thank you, you’re a gem!

I’ll wash their hands & faces, comb their hair, pack their bags & send them over for a “perfect pawtrait.” Australian Silky terriers should be photographed by a very clever Aussie. In Australia.
Girlies are on their way……………
Beautiful, beautiful image, Marion. You’ve definitely found your place in photography. Wonderful, I hope it expands and becomes a source of income as well as personal satisfaction.
jxx
I hope you are coming too and have splashed out on first class for them Jesika as the Girlies deserve nothing less. Travelling first class will prepare you all for the 5 star treatment I have prepared for you. Sending for the limo and picking you up personally as soon as you all arrive. I already have several perfect locations picked as backdrop for their shoot, please see here and here Seriously, you & your girls would be so fun to do a shoot with, we’d all have a ball! Usually the key to a great portrait shoot. :)
I am beginning to accept that this genre may be my thing and I should perhaps try and run with it. It’s not so far fetched I suppose, since my association with animals goes back as far as since before I can even remember, and connects with my past working life as a veterinary nurse. Those years of working with small and large domestic breeds certainly benetifed me in retrospect and I still get so much pleasure being around animals.
Thank you for adding your support, as I said before, no higher recommendations to be had as far as I’m concered. :)
