Alex Cullen is my 16yr old son.

Lumineux – French word for luminous, the radiating, reflective quality of light, and the one element on which the entire art of photography depends.

I consider myself photographer first, and artist second. For me they are not one and the same, as the artist only emerges from my first passion, that of photography. It could probably be said that I am a purveyor of images that are mostly ‘sugar and spice and all things nice’, and I make no excuses for that. I live in and ‘see’ the real world everyday through my work with others less privileged, and my eyes are wide open.
My art is for my own pleasure, a pleasure that I care to share with others, but also serves to remind me there are still good things that help to balance the bad in this world.
The work you see here is but one small part of the much larger picture that is me.

My thanks to the artists and writers here at RB whose work constantly provokes, intellectually stimulates, moves, and inspires. When I view art I love to be made to think about someone else’s take on the world, to be made to step outside of my own comfort zone and to explore & expand my own horizons. I may choose not to make bold statements with my own art, but very much appreciate the fact that others can & do. In fact, it is this freedom of expression that drives my love of the arts and of what I do.

I hope you find it as uplifting to view as I do creating it.
