Havasupai Waters
Nikon D80
F9, 1/15, ISO100
The hike to Supai Village (Grand Canyon, AZ, USA) was 8 miles in the rain. Arriving after dusk, at this, Havasu Falls, the water was flowing chocolate. We were treated to many colors, with this being the picture 60 hours later.
The above photo piece can be seen in context in an AV presentation you can download here:

Fantastic colors. So did you stay down here for 60 hours? Heading for my favorites.

This scene may be one of the most photogenic I’ve ever encountered. But I found the scene’s inherent “aptitude” does not materialize as readily as we might expect. Moving sideways – I notice that so far, the majority of comments are from female artists. What does this mean? Is it a commentary about the appeal of this particular work, or about the propensity of women to be more open to offer comment, or ? Or does it just show my naivete to ask such a question?
Mark Allen
Robert,
No it is a fair point. I have noticed that this too! In quick check I have found that in my group FoBNDCC (which has only been running for a few months) has 45 members – half of which are clearly female. (In that; I can see from their names who are obviously female.) But it could be more than half, I haven’t checked out each member’s detail to confirm. But this in itself is interesting.
Computers and digital photography has, in the past, been seen as a man thing. But clearly more and more women are getting involved, and it also would seem, prepared to comment on the photography they like.
Without getting too deep into left brain/right brain and so on, I have found female photographers to be more creative. Indeed I am proud to be a member of forum called Image Creative where the majority of members are female.
Feel free to disagree; but I think women find it easier to express their emotions on what they really like about photography. I get the feeling that many men don’t respond as much, and when they do it is as a result of something they really, really, really like. (If you can see what I mean?)
What would also be interesting is the age profiles, of all members on RB and of those that actively contribute and comment on other people’s work.

Oops, I was getting carried away there ;-)
Next time I am in this area I will be sure to check out Havasupai. I agree, it is a most photogenic place – but of course I have seen your most impressive 155MB Audio Visual

I can’t wait to get in here. A must on my list. You have done a remarkable job capturing this place. Very unique and very professional. Well done.
LumenLux replied
A non-photographer friend that was with me for this one was just informed that his reservation for this month was canceled. I think it was a victim of the concern over the swine flu. But the tribe was also still recovering from the flash flood that wrecked havoc a few months ago. Thank you for viewing my take on it. (Did you notice in the description above, there is also a link to an AV I put together of the area.)
Peter Hill
These waterfalls are wonderfully captured.
LumenLux replied
Thank you Peter. Your comment makes me wonder what a night shot here could be with some of your perfected takes of stormy, lightning-lit sky? I guess I’d first have to find a different take which includes some sky. Thanks again for your valued comment.
