With the wind dropping out, Captain Klaas ordered the studding sails, or stuns’sls as they’re more commonly known, to be set to eek out every bit of the small puffs of wind.

This view is from the skiff which the trainee crew were taken out on to get a view of the beautiful Bark Europa from the water.

I grabbed the opportunity to sail as a trainee crew member on the Bark Europa from Bermuda to Charleston, SC, a race leg on the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009. An amazing experience!
