six questions, one answer
I made this with a fineliner and a piece of paper. It’s possible it’s a breach of copyright even though I always write in shapes. If I disappear it’s because a shoe corporation has eaten me for breakfast.
Here’s a detail, and below I’ve written out the text because I’m in a good mood.

What happened to the days when we only replaced things that were broken, beyond repair? Where does our desire to replace new with newer stem from? How are we so easily convinced that our lives are barely worth living without those extra inches of plasma, that additional megapixel, or another twenty gigabytes of space in which to store the remnants of our increasingly digital lives? To bastardise Victor Papanek, what is this vicious, unhealthy desire to consistently spend money we don’t have on things we don’t need in order to impress others that don’t care? How can we let multi million dollar corporations sell our individuality back to us through a mass produced, sweat shop constructed pieces of apparel? Have we found total freedom or absolute disconnect?

Love the anti-copyright-breach layout and the fact that you actually use pen. Well done.

hmmmm… this is why you’ve been quiet for so long
2 in one day and learning to write sober must have been a bastard.
YOu seem to be wrestling with larger demons every day but kudos to you for attacking them head on.

Actually, I am still using an ancient Bakelite transistor radio [it’s black of course]. I carry it around on my back, connected to a 33Mhz 286 with a 30mb hardrive and 4096k RAM. For added aural texture I am running the sound through a valve pre-amp wired using copper cables wrapped in silk thread. The unit is powered by a mechanical flywheel and a small windmill.
The morning walk into work can be quite tiresome.

This is very very clever and oh so true.
I fear that some individuals feel they are not complete unless they own the newest and coolest. Filling some empty part of their lives with things.
Quentin Crisp wrote in his book Doing It In Style that one should not wear clothes that advertise something. (Or words to that effect).
We should insist that people wear blank tee shirts unless they are prepared to wear something like the tee shirts on Red Bubble.
Leeo
Brilliant! I’m buying this b4 it goes!
PS: I don’t own a mobile, but I DO need MORE megapixels!

Well thank you very much, Chief Estimator. Can you estimate how long my hibernation will be until I make another tee?
And thank you everyone else for all your jolly kind words, it makes fending off my demons so worthwhile.

Because brands create desire, and desire is never fulfilled. Once the Naked Ape put on a tshirt, he wanted a whole fucking wardrobe. I love how you’ve constructed the graphic from the text.
Ian James
Brilliant brought one earlier today….....

So you did, well thank you very much, I look forward to a photo.

I like the swoosh, looks like someone fell on their arse, or landed awkwardly at least. Maybe even a skidmark.

a quietly dissenting voice in the commercial wilderness. my big purple-headed magic jungian weathervein tells me you were quietly affected by dickheads wearing ‘wild mean fairly hip kid’ tee-shirts during your period of early sexual development, and learnt early on the amount of pointless scribbling that could be acheived in the time ‘real’ people take to do something ‘proper’, could be quite impressive. nano-implanted sloganism is the result.
i think the answer to many of your queries could lie in the fact everything that used to be made in japan is now made in china, unless you’re japanese, in which case it’s still made in japan. lucky bastards.
i’m a reebok man myself.

way cool!

Hey Jung, I remember Mr Steven Reynolds wearing that tee-shirt in my youth. What you say is possible. Although I have no interest in oversize comedy slippers.
Hey everyone else, cheers.

Genius on so many levels. :o)

Outstanding work

Excellent stuff, and a worthy social commentary. Especially as an enthusiastic photographer, I need to consciously stop myself from drooling over the latest updated camera body, as if an extra couple of megapixels or a slightly improved sensor or moderately better low-light clarity or a better autofocus will do anything more than incrementally improve my ‘Art’.... and what I really should be doing is improving myself. Great design!
Eleni Sofroniou
absolutely wicked!

Just great!

olechka
Actually my bf bought one, and accidentally got the wrong size (he’s XL and got Small) so I got to keep it, it fits me perfectly and I LOVE it :)
karl jung
does olechka realise that ‘lucan’ is the midnight alias of her boyfriend, the accidental purchaser. i should grow a fucking moustache and call myself poirot.
hercule poirot
if you did you would be infringing on my copyright, you fat sviss oaf.
lucan, you are wrong- i havce found a silk andkercheif, with the initials ‘c’ and ‘l’. it would appear it was not steve reynolds wearing the ‘mild green fairly hip kid’ shirt. please convene to my carriage after supper. i have something to show you.
Alex Whitcroft
If its a “parody” then I think your fine on the being disappeared in the night front. Really nice.

brilliant !
KreddibleTrout
mmm… i don’t have enough money and I have enough t-shirts to make buying this one a truly hypocritical act. but i really want one. one day.
Lucan Industri... replied
Yes, I have subtly convinced the people who’ll like this the most that they don’t need it.
Darryl A
Fantastic! I should buy one…. Now… where are the redBubble T-shirts made???
Lucan Industri... replied
I think somewhere Third World. Yes, America, they are made in America. Printing and all.
KreddibleTrout
really a poor marketing strategy.
Tasha Eliassen
haha cool
Doeke
I really like the statement, I like the shirt and I wanted to buy it. But then I realized it’s just a funny thing that this shirt is one of the most expensive one in the bunch. That kind a makes you a hypocrite don’t you think…
Lucan Industri... replied
Depends on what you think I do with the money.
Of course I don’t think I am a hypocrite, but that doesn’t mean I am not, in fact I don’t think I have ever met anyone who isn’t. You actually buying this shirt is hypocrisy in itself. It’s lose-lose. There’s no black and white with the human condition.
And I never said I was a charity, I’m spreading memes, positive healthy ones, you chose to assume this means it should be cheap. But if I cease to be able to afford to spread the memes then the positive messages are lost.
The tee is about false desire, not the price of an idea. I think I’ll double my margin.
Andrew Gordon
excellent work
Andrew Welch
good inspiration, especially the text in the text, otherwise the message has been done before, but hey, it doesn’t make it any less relevant. Globalisation is a double edged sword isn’t it- it destroys local cultures but it brings prosperity and jobs.
Lucan Industri... replied
This isn’t really about globalisation so much as how we’re fucking well sheep. How we’ve lost our own free will. How the grass is always greener. We’re selfish, foolish titboxes.
We’re cunts, we’re fucked, we deserve everything we get. Pass the gin.
