Letraset. Paper. Half a lifetime.
Originally it was a graphic about ‘not heeding warnings’ and ‘time running out’, but as I made it I started to think more and more about how 1984 is just as much an instruction manual for the powerful as it is a warning for the proles. There’s a name for this effect I think, but I have forgotten it.
3mm Helvetica Condensed Bold.

The bottom half of the hourglass never made it on. Looked too much like a moustache.
“Nothing was your own except the few cubic centimetres inside your skull.”

There was also a variation I quite liked but the text was too small I think.

I’m impressed by the level of concept development that goes into your tees. And your patience with letraset. The edges of those numbers are pretty much perfect.

Did you start this in 1984?
Nice work and one of my favourite reads.
Lucan Industri... replied
Yes. In April, just as the clock struck thirteen….

Double plus good.

PS There’s this program called ‘Adobe Illustrator’, if you used that it would’ve taken 0.5 and hour at most.
Lucan Industri... replied
‘0.5 and hour’ sound like newspeak.
I find it’s best for small animals if I don’t have too much spare time.

Dig it, and Sjem, half and hour? Not even with Illustrator (at least, not for me – I think my brain would implode!).

hell yeah pre computer days (early 90’s for me) i used to be obsessed with using letraset scratchy type. id hand collage images with a muck of nonsensical yet carefully placed type all over…ah good memories…yes i love this.

Whateva the name of the effect that u used is. I’m still getting over how cool this is, must if taken a whip to draw and pull out the pen tool… My patience is not at that level I’m afraid..
Lucan Industri... replied
It’s a Letraset, no computer of effects involved. Made by hand, with a sheet of sticky letters and an ice-cream stick on a piece of paper. As the photos hopefully show.
