A Poem For My Body

Stretch marks on my breasts
From my son who suckled there
Brown spots on my body
From the sun on skin too fair

Cellulite on hips
From the pleasures on my plate
Dark circles under eyes
Not from staying up too late

Sagging pubic mound
That once stood pert and proud
Lines around my lips
That I curse, (cause I’m allowed)

A waist no longer tiny
A bum no longer small
A neck no longer taut
But I don’t resent it all

My body gave me Danial
Gave me pleasure for no fee
It asked of me no questions
And was always there for me

It healed me when I crumbled
It saw love through open eyes
It hugged the one’s I care for
Gave me peace from deep inside

So I’d like to tell you something
And I’d like to make it clear
If not for you dear, Linda
I would simply not be here

With Love

A Poem For My Body

I am learning to accept and love my ageing body. Not an easy thing, I am so proud and vain, but I am on the right track.

Lamenting yet joyful, a tribute to your beauty – past and present.

It is good you found body acceptance. In fact, I would rather accept your body than my own.
I am thankful for all the pleasures and joys mine had brought me, and, I know I was the one who allowed the construction (or de-construction) of this vessel I call home. And, although I cannot claim the wear and tear from bearing a child, I was a sperm donor and had a delightful affect on another’s body which gave me my own fine son.
A few have told me outright that I look pregnant…I reply, “I’m carrying my inner child”

I am not one for poetry, but i must admit this is awonderful piece…everything is relitive, your so called ageing body looks pretty good to me…When i was younger my wife used to say to me you are to pretty.I am now just pretty awful. But getting old has never been something i dreaded as long as we are both fit and healthy that is much more important…keep the brilliant photos coming

You are the wordsmith aren’t you. A wonderful tribute to the female landscape that is you. You should do some writing and commit to paper more to compliment the photography.

Love the ‘inner child’ reply, very clever comeback. Probably some truth to it as well….....and thanks for accepting my body too…..everyone craves acceptance…....lol. ;))

Let me agree wholeheartedly about the ‘health’ comment. It is just the curse of most women, I think, to mourn the passing of their youthful beauty. I know, I know, it is then replaced by a mature beauty…..........but that sucks…........lol. Thanks Sword. :)))))

Well, maybe I caught a virus off you….........lol. I always have written poetry, but to be honest with you, I am not that big a fan. Strange, contradictory thing to say, probably. However, from time to time, I go for it. And also, there are so many talented poets (including you) on RB, how could you not be inspired. Thanks buddy. :)))

I don’t think much about my body…I let my husband worry about it. But this is empowering for all women. You are an honest writer…that is wonderful.

I have lain beside “women of a certain age”, Linda… and their body’s, though seasoned, are still very beautiful because they fill the nights with indescribable passion and a sense of Old World soul that only comes with time and experience… that, to me, is what your poem celebrates…
