This is the first time we have been visited by a pair of Peaceful Doves in the 25 years we have been here. I was delighted to see them come for a drink on one of the hottest days this summer. I had heard them in the garden but hadn’t been able to track them down.
They are so pretty with pale blue patches around the eye, blue tones on the neck and lovely stripes. So far they have stayed with us and I hope they breed here. I have trouble with cats that come across the paddocks & that is a real concern.

lovely Rita, you will have to build a feeder up high so the cats can’t get to them – a wise old man (me) once said spoil the bird and smack the cat…..!

  • Thank you Wise Old Man, you made me laugh out loud alright! I did once put food in this one but the mixed seed didn’t attract as many birds as the water does. I will try another one just for feed as you suggest. I’d more than smack the cat if I got hold of it. Seriously I used to steal them when I was a very young girl stuff them in the bottom of the pram in cavity and put the doll back on top with covers and all. My father didn’t like them and I had my legs smacked on a couple of occasions when he found them in his shed. Our youngest son adores cats, and his family of five are very soppy with them.
