Jackie Howe (A BIG BLOKE) immortalized as the shearing legend who put ‘Blackall’ on the map for shearing 321 sheep in seven hours & 40mins. This done with handheld blade shears a record that has never been broken. Here he stands holding a large Marino Ram. His Hotel now a museum with pieces of his tools etc., stands behind him but unfortunately was closed the cold rainy day we took a walk through the country town between the heavy showers. Blackall was big sheep country back in the 1880’s to 1970’s & is home to the Blackall Woolscour an historic wool washing plant which operated on steam from 1908 t0 1978. Being wool growers ourselves (on a very small scale) we were very interested. But oh boy it was a cold and miserable day.
