Dont Make Your Thoughts A Cup Of Tea

The title is from a passage of a book called “Crooked Cucumber”.

The book is about the life and teachings of Shunryu Suzuki, a Zen Buddhist master.

Think about the title for a second and wonder if you are the kind of person that would be able to not make your thoughts a cup of tea.

Good thoughts yes.

Bad thoughts, well whats the point. If you keep the bad thoughts in your head long enough, they will determine who you are and what you will become.

Thoughts, in this context are like people, the ones you like you offer them tea, the ones that will bring harm, anger or suffering into your life, you must not.

Zen Buddhism is similar in most ways to any other type of Buddhism.

Doing things the right way, “Right Thinking” is part of the Noble Eightfold Path.

To be a nice or nicer person, dont make your thoughts a cup of tea.

I like this analogy of cup of tea ~ I agree with this reality of our thoughts being the origin of how we are in the world

You’ve given me something to think about this evening. I know there is such power in reflection on your own thoughts, especially when they are negative. Thank you for the inspiration.

If my words can touch the mind of just one person on the earth then I feel I have achieved so much, thank you for your comments.

If you take a look at “Do it Right” in my writing, this may also be of use to you.
