On being brave by LouJay

Currently unavailable for purchase

I have been playing with self portraits a little of late. You know, it gets easier. But I have yet to publicly display a nitty gritty one – walking in the rain with hair plastered to my head, the sp taken after a run, hot and red in the face, now that would be brave…any one of the numerous lopsided funny faced sps…. would that be true bravery or true madness?! How about the I just got out of bed number? A true test of self acceptance.

I might stick to the few I like….for now.

If you haven’t had a play with your own portrait, I urge you to do so. It has been a very interesting investigation.

A bathroom mirror job.
And yes, that’s a wall sculpture of a fish coming out of my head, created by my beautiful creative mum.
Fujifilm finepix S1500, portrait mode
Cropped heavily
Gimp vignette

I like to play. I find joy in small things and moments where the edge between conscious looking and subconscious seeing becomes soft enough for me to be there for a moment.

This is just lovely I adore the dress and colours ready for a lovely evening meal.
Well done you for continuing with the Sp, you may not realise it but you are nudging me to face the camera again and re start my Sp. As now facing up to the empty nest symdrome I am wondering who I am.

  • Come on girl, what you waiting for?? We are here ready for you!! Thanks so much Karen. Dealing with pictures of self has been of far more personal benefit than I realised it would be. x

    Yes yes yes!
Determined, and about to try the Penguin Trouser Dance … can see where your girls get their beautiful charm.

  • Hehe, not the dance….but I am going on stage to do 2 solo numbers in Pingelly’s Got Talent this month……in a glittery frock!! Wish me luck, I’m gonna need all I can get!! Its a bit of a personal challenge, as whilst I have sung publicly many times, never ever solo, a very very long time ago, and never ever ever here in the small town (pop1000) which is my home now.

Brave indeed, from my point of view. I’ve never been friends with the camera, I just stiffen up. Last year when we were away, we were being videotaped without me knowing. I was so amazed at the woman I saw, I truly liked her. This is a good project, and you look beautiful, Loujay.

  • Thank you Tori. I hadn’t realised the power of getting to know ones self visually. Am exploring voice too – recording and listening. It is quite transforming. Video next!! heheh

ah, so that fish sculpture is intentionally coming out of your head! you’re too brave for me, lou – and very beautiful in red!

  • hheheh. The mirror in my Mums back bathroom is lovely and big….but there’s this fabulous fish on the wall, and it is very hard to keep it off my head! Thanks Nadine.

Brava! Hope you keep on playing with SP’s, Lou. You’re lovely. Love the warmth in your eyes and that beautiful painterly looking dress.

  • I have had fun along the way. The real challenge is coming to terms with the less than glamorous day to day images of myself (you know the ones, that show the bags under the eyes….the double chin and the red nose?!) ….not there yet!! Thank you Deborah! :))
