I like to play. I find joy in small things and moments where the edge between conscious looking and subconscious seeing becomes soft enough for me to be there for a moment.

oh i love that book! this is amazing natural colour. are they orange on the inside, or red? i can’t tell if these are cut?

  • Yes, they are cut. And they are magenta through and through…..not homegrown sadly, but a lovely gift brought by visitors! I also found The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan very very good.

what a great gift! i shall look for the other pollan book. have you read ‘eating animals’?

  • No, I haven’t, but will request it in at work. My subject of passion is food and the ethics/environmental and social impact/industrialisation of food/history/origins of plants and food plant varieties/traditional cuisines, modern and ancient and really just the whole big picture! And I really really like to eat!

Are these the carrot top stems of purple carrots? Wow! The purple is great. I have read that purple coloration in foliage comes from anthocyanins which help protect the delicate plant from sunburn and also may have antioxidant value. That is why some plants have purple tips or purple new leaves.

  • Actually, these are the carrots themselves -peeled, quartered lengthways, cut and ready to braise. There are plenty of species that colour up very well here – plenty of sunshine!! Maybe too much!
