Red Encrusted by LouJay

Photographic Prints

Available to buy on…

An exoskeleton of scaly red sequins, each exactingly fastened to a large styrofoam ball with a seed bead and a pin – I might add by a dear friend and work colleague. A centrepiece extravaganza of three different sized Christmas Puddings.
I was eating my lunch at work, thinking I must put these away now….Christmas is well and truly gone for a while, when it struck me that they are scaly patterned, and there is a scaly patterned challenge in Shapes and Patterns
Fujifilm finepix S1500 Super macro setting
Some photoshopping fun – to hopefully add a little depth and sparkle…….

I like to play. I find joy in small things and moments where the edge between conscious looking and subconscious seeing becomes soft enough for me to be there for a moment.

Great work Lou! Love this take on scales, like a fashionable dragon :)

  • Oooh a dragon clad like this pud would be superb! I so rarely get organised for challenges – they come and get me twiddling…and are gone before i get something uploaded! my life seems full of missed challenges – or missed entries to them! I’m too busy with the challenge bit! Welcome back!

This looks very organic! It reminds me that human beings and the things we create are part of nature too.

  • Thank you! Too right – I think we can lose sight of that – that we are part of nature ourselves. Bravo!

I bet this would make a great disco ball! saw a life size scaly dragon the other day, swimming through the dirt and it was clad in old CDs, just like these sequins (at Riverlands Montessori School)

  • I have been considering cds in a creative way for a while now – something has been brewing and may burst forth one of these days. What a great way to clad a dragon! The only draw back of something like this as a disco ball is all the darn pins that might fall out onto the dance floor….

Oh this is wonderful love the sequins and have to hold my hand up and say i have made christmas baubles with sequins and pins many years ago. Love the colour and depth.

  • I must admit, there is something universally appealing about sequins and seed beads. There’s a bit of bling lover in us all!
    Thank you Karen!

this looks amazing Lou… I love it … well done my dear.

  • Thank you Maria! I am just so chuffed that I got something into a challenge! I am not usually very organised in that department….they seem to come and disappear too fast for my slow country life!
