Number 201 in my 365 project 1-100 and 101-200
looking for the gifts in the present, each day for a year

A plethora of earwigs this spring past led me to looking into the mythical significance and symbolism of earwigs. The earwig represents the mother, unusual in the insect world in their care for their young (excepting social insects – ant, bees, etc) Interestingly, the earwig also in some cultures symbolises the virgin ;-the maiden. There is also in some cultures, an association of earwigs with energy – to do with the way they twist and writhe. Curious insects, and strangely compelling. This delicate and fine featured specimen was on my kitchen bench yesterday morning.

I like to play. I find joy in small things and moments where the edge between conscious looking and subconscious seeing becomes soft enough for me to be there for a moment.
