I live in a small wheatbelt town in Western Australia, where art is not always high on the agenda.
This place is both my inspiration and my frustration. I love the light here, and the sky, the spaciousness of it all, and what tiny remnants of native flora there are here, are breathtakingly glorious. It is the frustration that leads me to get off my backside and be in the world….... I seem to need that sort of adversity to inspire and motivate myself.
I am pretty eclectic when it comes to inspiration, I greedily enjoy colour, form and texture, and playing with these in any way that comes, in the small snippets of time and space that are left of me after work (I work in a community not-for-profit organisation), parenting my two daughters, being a wife and friend and partner -in -craziness to my husband, working my butt off in my 900 square metre vegetable garden, whilst still building the crazy strawbale house we live in. I am particularly passionate about vegetables – the myriad of shape , colour and varieties and all stages of life from sprouting seed to bursting ripeness, to a dry seedhead waiting for threshing and winnowing.
I can’t always capture what I want to photographically, as I am still lusting after that presently unattainable digital SLR!
My daughter Ariel is a keen Young Snapper, and I will upload work on her behalf from time to time. As soon as I work out how to do it, I will make a folio that is linked with her work. Baby steps, and exercises in patience…...
