Tulips keep growing after they are cut, but if you want to stunt their growth, pierce them with a pin. Plunge the pin through the base of the bulb and remove. The flower will continue to stand straight, its potential for growth denied.
I grew up believing flowers were a link between the afterlife and us. Not quite dead, not quite alive cut flowers serve as a natural portal. The fact that tulips continue to grow is nothing short of miraculous as far as I’m concerned. Not one to stand in the way of miracles I don’t pierce them. I place them, a dozen white tulips, in a clear glass vase.
In full bloom by midday, these bowing yogis pay homage to passersby. “Namaste,” I reply, bowing back to them in deference, my way of saying, “I notice you, thank you for noticing me.”

This is a wonderful story. I probably shouldn’t be leaving a comment but the fact nobody else has means I simply can’t resist. (and I am not involved in judging Gaia!) I love these wonderful, real world simple statements.

Thank you Pilgrim! This one has been here awhile…lots of hits, a few favoritings, but no comments…hard to know what to make of that… Thanks again for your kind words—it means a lot that you read this and enjoyed it!
