A rare sight which I have been waiting to see for a long time on a trip over the mountains. Today we were lucky to spot a herd of wild brumbies in amongst the trees, grazing on the snowgrass. Even in their winter condition, they look quite good.

Mostly blacks, a couple of bays and a big bay stallion.

Equine artist working in pastel, oils & acrylics – specialising in the romantic Friesian horse & magical Gypsy Cob. I also like to paint landscapes, unicorns & fantasy. I live on a farm surrounded by native animals & birds, horses, cattle, a few sheep & 3 dogs with my partner based on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia.

The exhb we went to see was great, but this was the highlight of the day finally seeing the brumbies and I managed to get quite close before they trotted off into the bush. Lucky Lady Lou! I would “kill” (LOL) to see some brumbies in the wild… (Sigh)
    Where were they?
The Silver Brumby books as a little girl got my love of Brumbies going…
As it did every little Aussie Horsey Girl…
    Big Fave!

  • Thanks for the fav too Helen – I was thinking about the Silver Brumby books as we travelled today – yes hoping we would see some wild horses, as we haven’t had much luck before. And then on the way home this afternoon there they were – a herd of about 10 horses.
