Torrance, UNITED STATES

Louisa McQ is a watercolor artist with a passion for illustration. Her current body of work, “The Ladies of Cabaret,” was inspired by her experiences working in the nocturnal and colorful environments of night clubs and bars across America. The pieces are representative, whimsical self-portraits of scenes that have been turned into illustrations of her life.

Essentially self-taught, McQ has a defining style characterized by sultry elongated images with a touch of the macabre. She studied for a year at The Art Institute of Chicago and finished her BA at Columbia College, graduating with a degree in Cinematography in 2006. After working for years in the film business as a camera assistant, she has decided to return to her roots as a fine artist, showing her work in various local galleries over the last few years. McQ recently participated at a group show at the Latino Museum of Art and Culture and is a member of the Society for Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators.
