Beattie Cove - Marathon ONtario by

I wanted to do something with the red rocks in it for awhile – the Port Coldwell Alkaline complex near here is pretty special – its the largest deposit of Syenite in the world ( red rock ) its part of what is called Centre III for geologists – its contained in 3 large circular areas on the landscape the result of a three magma chambers ( volcano’s ) estimated to be a billion years old and part of the original catastrophic re action that caused this area of the earth to ‘rip’ open which is what formed Lake Superior – so pretty much you can say that the Marathon Ontario area is at the epi centre of the activity which is what makes it so mineral rich here with the Hemlo Gold fields and the PGM copper finds. and the credit for that information has to go to a friend Dr Jurate Gertzbein who calls herself the ‘worlds unofficial’ expert on Centre III Coldwell complex – thanks Jurate!
This piece will be the cover of the Ontario Country register for the months of sept/oct.

Ahhhhh Laura Lea this is exceptional, so beautifully painted I thought it was a clear early morning shot with the soft kiss of the sun on the land and water! Very interesting description about the mineral content of the red rocks!
