Queen of the Night flower by

this is the Epiphyllum oxypetalum or the common name Night blooming Cerus – the orchic cactus
It was given to me by an art friend and it took 3yrs to get it to bloom
the flower starts to open up at night and only lasts about 48 hrs, you can almost watch it open up in front of you and it is spectacular when it reaches it height….. and comes in many colours

Wow, what a neat flower. Looks like a pointsetta – sort of. Does it just get the one bloom or lots?

  • my plant had four on them – my girlfriends has nine right now which is considered unusual she is told – the flowers get as large as a tea cup plate

A truly striking bloom, Laura! A friend recently gave me five starts of the white Cerius, and they’re really starting to grow! I imagine it will take several years before they will bloom. I didn’t realize they could also be red – yours is beautiful! – Pat

oh how lucky you are Pat! I was so happy when this one bloomed! I recently had a small green house shed built and I have them out there for the summer and they are very happy! look forward to seeing a bloom of your white cerius!
