“You mean, you don’t shoot in RAW?”
“No. Why?”
“You really don’t shoot in RAW?”
“Am I missing something?”
“Missing something? Missing something… Oh, Puh leess!”
“Tell me…”
“Man, you are missing half your life, all those original data, the rich content of the unaltered and unadulterated image…”
“Yes, tell me more…”
“Those megabytes of further data, five times greater in size than your JPG files. Think about the abundant manipulative potential in those…”
“What about the fun?”
“Fun? What’s that? Can that add to my post processing bulk load?”
“I guess not.”
“Then, its crap. It can’t contribute to the process.”
“Hey that’s great then! You can have your RAW, and I can have my FUN!”

I can sympathise having taken over 500 shots in the last two days all in RAW. It does make me wonder whether I should just shoot in JPG and be done with it. If I can’t get it nearly right enough to shoot straight to JPG then surely I should give up now.

  • G’day Walker! Some cameras record in both RAW and JPG. When the users are satisfied that the JPGs are coming out to their liking, they can slowly give RAW a miss for those casual events. Cheers!
