For So Long
The injustices of the world…..through the eyes of a child.

For So Long belongs to the following groups:
All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Masterpieces: Literary Workshop and WMGMa, can you tell me why,
The white men treat us so unkind?
Is it that the colour of my skin
Can truly reflect the heart within?
Please Ma, can you tell my why
I go hungry, by and by?
And my brothers grow forever thin
When some don’t want for anything?
And Ma, can you tell me why
Even though I try and try,
I’m worth nothing in your eyes,
Just because I am a child?
Mother, can you tell me why
A girls’ worth is less than wheat or rye?
Is it that my gender and my kin
Reflect the heart I hold within?
Ma can you tell me why,
Yesterday, I turned just nine
But they give me a gun and make me fight
When others sleep so safe at night?
Oh, Ma can you tell me why,
So many turn a blind eye?
For I have suffered for so long,
And I can see that somethings’ wrong.

Extremely powerful … imagine a world where this poem was put in the hearts and minds of us all … amazing things might begin to happen.
