Stop Taking Pictures and Get My Breakfast!!! by

This is Toby, my quarter horse. He starting to lose patience as I made my way to the barn to feed him. Unfortunately for him and his buddy Spike, I had my camera in hand after our first decent snowstorm in North Carolina in years. Typically it takes me a minute to walk to the barn…….yesterday……….about a half an hour. Click, click, click, click.

For rescued pets group backstory. Toby came to us about 8 or 9 years ago. He had suffered an injury to his face and had facial nerve paralysis resulting in a drooping lip and a nostril that wouldn’t flare (this causes major breathing difficulties when undergoing heavy exercise). His previous owner didn’t want him anymore. I intended to do a surgery to remove part of his nostril, but six months on pasture and the nerves completely regenerated. So Toby got to remain the cute boy he is.

Great story with a happy ending!

  • Thanks J.D. I was not looking forward to the surgery as it would have been quite disfiguring. Sometimes Mother Nature can be the best doctor. Just add a little tincture of time.

Picture postcard perfect!! I love this shot so much………………

Bit of a dump of the white stuff for your neck of the woods, isn’t it? !!

  • Thanks Rose. Yeah quite a bit for us. Not so much NC, the western part of the state gets snow, but we sit in a valley at the foothills by the Blueridge. Snowstorms from the west typically stop at the mountains. Those from the coast don’t, come in this far, so it’s rare for us to get snow. Usually it’s freezing rain. This storm came up from the south and it was cold enough for us to get a good snowstorm. The last time we got this much, I think Aaron was five and he’s thirteen now. It’s supposed to be 70 degrees Saturday but 10 degrees (Fahrenheit) tonight. Crazy weather this time of year. Thanks so much for your comments and the fav my friend.

This is a beautiful photo Pam and a lovely portrait of Toby. I like the backlighting and the contrast of the rich chestnut and wood tones against the white snow.

  • Thanks very much Jenny. I love your detailed comments. Those are the things that I like about this photo as well. I appreciate your stopping by.

Look at all that snow…great contrast between a pretty horse and the fluffy snow beautiful!

  • It was a spectacularly beautiful (albeit cold) morning. Thanks so much for taking a look.

Wow! What a story, he’s such a beautiful animal! Dee

  • Thanks Diane. You’d never know he ever had a problem now (except that he’s a little mouthy, likes to chew on leather……..I suspect he has a little residual tingling sensation in his lip). Overall he’s doing great. Thanks for the favorite.
