Gunsmith
This man has been working in the gun shop every time I’ve gone in there. I believe his name is Tom. He and another gentleman have retired from their previous jobs and find great joy in recreating old muzzle loaders using the same techniques as the early settlers (see “Reflections of Old Salem”) These rifles are custom made for each individual who purchases them. When I asked where they get the bullets (musket balls) he told me that they make a mold for each gun and the gun owners have to melt down lead and make their own bullets. The guns are created from forms made from the original guns crafted by Timothy Vogler, the original owner of the gunshop in 1766. Old Salem, North Carolina.

Excellent composition and portrait. Like the contrast of black and white and angle you took this photo from.

Thank you Jane. The only light is from the window. I was worried about movement, but it came out all right.

i used to work with a bloke who fired his own muskets – and yeah he would make musket balls and powder etc… fantastic photo.
Lolabud replied
Thanks very much. This is such a interesting place to visit. The guys that work there are happy to show you exactly how they make the muskets and the forms from the original guns. It is in one of the oldest settlements from early America.
