This gorgeous little guy is a resident of the Catoctin Nature Preserve and Zoo in Thurmont, Maryland, USA, which was hit hard during the recent Hurricane Sandy in our area. I haven’t had a chance to go up and visit since, so I do hope he and his friends are all okay.

Image taken 4/27/12 with the Nikon D300 and the 150-500mm vr Sigma at 450mm, iso 640. Darkish in there!!!

Wow, phenomenal closeup, love the reflection in the owl’s eyes! And such wonderful clarity and focus revealing so much detail!

  • Thank you, Joanne!!! i really like that 150-500mm Sigma lens … it’s not great in low light, as this was (I’m pretty sure it’s a 5.6), but the Nikon D300 has a pretty good iso range so the two together don’t do half bad.

That’s a serious lens, Lois, and a great combination with the D300. Excellent colour and detail here. :)george

  • Thanks, George!!!! It’s really not too bad … you have to stand kind of funny and hold it a particular way, but I really love it. I have always tried using it in bright sunlight, so I was pretty happy with the way this one and the others did … God bless the iso on the D300!!!!!
