A glorious pileated woodpecker … who led me on quite the chase. First of what will probably be several images of him and his mate. Image taken in my backyard in Maryland, USA, with the Nikon D300 and the 150-500mm Sigma lens, focal length 500mm, December 3, 2011. Edited in Photoshop and Topaz Adjust.
Excellent. I was able to get my first photos of these prehistoric looking birds this past September. Nice one!
Well, you know me, just the minute I read your note i had to go find your images … they’re GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exciting, isn’t it??? I traipsed all over the most nasty area … VERY steep hill, brambles, sticker bushes, slippery mossy rocks hidden under piles of leaves, all kinds of booby traps … all this in heels one day … and hair curlers the next (stop laughing) … and yes, I did fall over once!!!!!!! But … ooo baby … I’ll be out there again next time I hear them calling me out to play!!!!!!!
