A pretty little bee enjoying the summer bounty of coneflowers in my garden, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA, July 17, 2010. I’ve been having fun experimenting around with short / shallow dof lately. Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 60mm Nikon Macro/Micro lens at 60mm focal distance. Shutter speed 1/640, aperture f/3.3, exp. -0.03, iso 400, spot metering. Post processing with a hint of levels only in Photoshop CS4.

Fantastic photo! Wonderful colors, great details and nice blur. Perfect!
Thanks so much … I’ve really been getting into deliberate blur this summer … the flowers and bugs are a great subject to practice on!!! Glad you enjoyed this one!!!
Thanks, John!!!! isn’t he pretty??? Have no idea what kind of bee it is … tried looking him up but didn’t find any info. I’ve seen him (or his brothers and sisters) around the garden often and I’ve always enjoyed his colors.
Lovely Lois and such gorgeous detail. Looks amazing !!
Sean, thank you .. I fired off at least half a dozen of this guy before he flew off … I was happy to see the focus hit the eyes on one of them, lol!!!!
Rare & beautiful.. Unusual colors.. Congratulations in advance for this photo’s well-deserved success! Aloha-
Hi Ron!!! What a lovely comment, thank you so much!!!! The beauty of the shallow dof is the unusual blending of color in the background … I never know what I’m going to get!!!
