A fun capture of two of my sweet butterfly friends, enjoying the coneflowers in my garden on a late June afternoon. The butterflies and skippers have been more numerous this year than I ever remember seeing them!! It always amazes me how peacefully they all coexist … bumble bees and butterflies and skippers … all happily slurping away!!!! And what great models they make!!!! The bright blue of the background is from the water in our swimming pool.
Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 70-300mm vr Nikon lens at 300mm focal length. Shutter 1/160, aperture f/5.6, exp. -0.33, iso 250, spot metering. Very little post processing, just some use of the smudge tool in Photoshop CS4 on the petals to disguise the Japanese beetle teeth marks.

Beautiful, Lois!!! I love, LOVE the colors and feel of summer at its very best. Great as always xo
Maureen, you sweetheart!!!! Thank you … there’s a “colorful” challenge in one of the groups … wasn’t too sure if anyone else would enjoy it, but you know me, I do like color … so thought I’d pop it up. SO happy you liked it, too!!! YAY!!!

Wow ! Lois ! such a beautiful capture , the colours are so vibrant and the DOF is perfect !
Marie, thank you so much!!!! I have been working hard lately on fun dof images … wasn’t sure how much of an impact this would have as the 70-300 only goes to 5.6. But I think it worked out okay!!!

Marvelous shot Lois! So easy on the eyes. What wonderful thing was in the background and such a lovely topaz? I was immediately intoxicated by the beauty.
Hiiii Lee-Anne!!!! Thank you!!!!!! The thing in the background is our swimming pool. If I actually get INSIDE my flower garden, NOT tromp on any flowers, crouch down, and generally work myself into the acclaimed downward-facing-pretzel-yoga position, I can angle the camera just enough to get the aqua in the shot. Usually, of course, by the time i’ve done all that the butterflies have flown away, lol!!!! So glad you liked this one!!!!
