A comical capture of a couple of squabbling starlings, on the hunt for their dinner on my back deck after one of our snowstorms this winter. I combined two shots taken in succession to show “The Bite” … and … “The Reaction.”
also available as “I’m Sorry!” card:

Both images taken with the Nikon D300 with the 150-500mm Sigma OS lens at 500mm focal distance. Both images were at shutter 1/500 and aperture f/8.0, exposure – 0.33, spot metering, iso 400. The images were combined, cloned to within an inch of their lives, and textures added in Photoshop.

My thanks to Skeletal Mess at Flickr for the great textures.

Hi Shelly … thanks!!!!

Excellent presentation and composition, I just love it when an image tells a story and this one is stellar! Love the contrasting colors between the birds and the background.
Joanne, thanks so much … I knew I had to figure out a way to put these two shots together, even tho both are fun on their own.

Love this Lois! Textures are fantastic, it’s like looking at a story book :)
Hey Andrew!!!!! Thank you!!!!! Once upon a time …

If these weren’t starlings I’d be tempted to call them a couple of old hens. They do look like they’re squabbling and in the first view one is getting it’s head bit off. A clever compilation. Looks like pages in a story book. Barb
Thanks, Barbara … I had the camera on rapid shoot mode … and the second shot here truly does follow the first image. I don’t like starlings … they arrive at the feeder in huge groups and gobble everything in sight … well, they did with my old feeder … but I gotta tell ya, they really are funny to watch!!!
