“Harbinger – A person or thing that announces the approach of another.”
It won’t be long before I’ll take the dogs out in the evening and hear the high pitched chirps of my little amphibian friends, calling to each other in the darkness … and telling me that spring is near. Surprisingly, as early as February I’ll hear their nocturnal love songs … they always bring a smile.

(So you know I wasn’t being cruel, this little guy and his buddies took a dip in my pool every evening last summer … and every morning it was my pleasure to scoop them out and send them on their way. The toads, such as this fellow, were very easy going and after awhile it became apparent that they were happy to pose for me. After a few minutes of fun, I always gently placed them under the leaves of the ivy … where they could spend the day in the shade, hunting for bugs.)
Image taken on the morning of July 24, 2009 with the Nikon D300 and the 60mm Nikon macro/micro lens. Shutter speed was 1/250, aperture f/9.0, exposure -.33, iso 1000. Jpeg sharpened in Capture NX2.

It’s funny you should comment on his expression … as sweet and easy going as they were … (and as many times as I saved their lives from the pool or from the road or the driveway) I half expected expected a little smile or something from them … but nope … just old stone face!!!
