I love it when the titles I think up can work as double entendres. In this case this gorgeous empty barn … and the farm itself, I guess … do seem to be Finished … cloned off to the left rear is a housing development. It could also refer to the job of plowing and seeding … which, unless these are weeds (are they?) is Finished. But the title also refers to the fact that I’ve mucked around with this shot so much … and it has so many names in my computer (I tend to try to include what processes I used on a shot in its name) … that last night when I did this version, the only thing I put to the end of the loooooong image name … was … “Finished.” And so, it stuck!!

Original image taken just up the road from our house on April 6 of ’09 in Montgomery County, Maryland, with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon/Nikkor lens. Photoshop cloning out of distractions and 2 duplicates created, Photomatix HDR from a single, hand-held image, dups at -/+2 eval, Photoshop for the addition of a texture, then into Paint for some blending.

  • Karen, you darling!!! Thank you sooo much … you have no idea how pretty I think this one is on full screen!!!! All the little details of the plants in front … there’s detail in the trees … sigh … but on these itty bitty images you can hardly see a thing!!! I really hesitated posting this one because of it!!! Sooo glad you peeked on “large” because you saw at least a bit more!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

oh, Lois, fantastic work. I love this shot even without extra layers ( which are just bonus). the field look so huge, like an ocean and lead you straight to the barn , and beautiful clouds – EXCELLENT

  • Luda!! Thank you thank you!!!!! The funny thing about this one is, I went out that day particularly to shoot the clouds, lol!!!! Then I practically covered everything over with the textures!!! HAHA!!!! Problem is, there was a HUGE WHITE spot from the sun … and nothing I did could save it. Tried everything I could think of. So .. I plopped a texture over it and that was that!!!!!

get ND filters, they work like a magic for me

  • Luda, I just got one yesterday … I’m soooooo excited … I didn’t know you were using them too!! I had a lovely, lovely conversation with Andrew Leighton (whose landscapes are to DIE for!!!) and he confirmed what I’d already suspected. I got the one he recommended, the Cokin graduated neutral gray … medium … I’m soooo excited … can’t wait to try it out this weekend!!!!!!! WHEEEEE!!!!

  • Oh, you DARLING!!!!! Thank you!!!! It was one of those cold, chilly, “mizzly” days in early April … but I was loving the sky!!!! I crawled all over the area here to get great sky shots … then fired this one off because I loved the field … and which one do I post?? The FIELD with the messed up sky!! HAHA!! Thanks so much for your fabulous “review”!!! WHEEE!!!

Now this is texturing with a vengeance .. fine image, Lois. (and there’s me thinking the double entendre was “Much better full size” … )

  • … laughing … yeah, I guess it is “with a vengeance”!!!! I nearly exploded the computer last night with versions of this thing … finally gave up, slapped the cover down on the laptop and went to bed. Had sense enough not to post it … but waited ‘till morning. If only I could have made the sky work without the blown parts, you’d have seen a much different shot, lol!!!!!! Hey … as to the double entendre??? At least you read that part!!!! ROFL!!!! YAY!!!!
