My husband and I, on our way to “Horseshoe Curve” … an interesting local railroad attraction, found this amazing bridge along the side of the road not far from Altoona, Pennsylvania, USA. According to the plaque, this bridge was a part of the Portage Railroad. No. 6 of the 10 inclined planes, it was used to carry canal boats by rail between Altoona and Johnstown. This unique engineering feat was completed in 1834. The road was 36 miles long.
