I titled this “Contrasts,” as I think this image takes that word to so many levels. The contrast of man’s architectural genius to the architectural genius of God or the Universe or Mother Nature in the unique cactus field, and rolling hills … the contrast of textures, light and shadow … all just amazed me. I actually think my eyes glazed over when the car pulled up and I hopped out with my camera.
My visit to Arizona was a few years ago, but even now I can hardly imagine a place more different to the East Coast of the US, where I’m from. This particular shot was taken at the Western District, Red Hills Saguaro National Park Visitor Center, not too far from Tucson, Arizona. I barely got inside the visitor’s center building itself, actually have no memory of it at all, lol, I was so enthralled with the play of light and shadow going on outside.
I have done a little research and have not been able to come up with the name of the architect. Have contacted the people at the Visitor’s Center, and hopefully they will be getting back to me. Just as photographers and artists like to be credited back and acknowledged when our own work is admired, I think the same should hold true for the artists who create such truly amazing works of art as this building truly is.
I was using the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikkor lens. Taken April 17, 2009.
