Our visit to Greece was all too short … this particular image is representative of all of beautiful Corfu … taken from the terrace of the Paleokastritsa Monastery in July of 2005 with the Olympus C-5000 zoom. I’ve been playing with this image, off and on, for months so am not at all certain at this point what different things I’ve done to it. Pretty sure there’s HDR in there somewhere, with the original hand-held image duplicated a few times and put through Photomatix. I did a lot of hand painting … in particular of the flowers in the foreground … but then I think an Orton sort of blurred the details, so I went back and re-painted the white flowers. Also, several texture layers … one actually behind the water area (which was miserably blown out) to give it life, and one or two over the image as well. Not to mention some work in Levels and some Dodging and Burning. A labor of love, as they say, as the trip to Greece and Corfu were a dream come true!!!

I have never seen a photo so 3D (in larger view) which makes you feel like you are truly there. It is a window on the scene and beautiful. I may never get there but I feel almost as if I have. Beautiful work. :0) Song

Thank you so much, Song!!! I think the impression of 3D is largely due to the scene itself. It was pretty much delineated into three levels. The flowers in the foreground were quite distinct from the shrubs and trees leading down to the water. And the water itself and the rocks beyond were their own image as well. Each very individual in and of themselves.

The funny thing is I’d read a book that took place in Corfu when I was a kid and had always, always wanted to see it. I was so excited to be here finally!! Oh, I think a lot of us are guilty of that at times. This one in particular I just couldn’t let go of. I actually took it in 2005 with a point and shoot. As I’ve learned more tricks with Photoshop and Painter I’ve gone back now and then and tried different things. Now, this is over a couple of years, mind you!!!! So when I recently got it to this particular stage … I honestly had no confidence in my own judgment left anymore!!! So glad you liked it!!!!
