Greeting The Morning Sun
Chosen as Avator for the Mood & Ambience group September 7, 2009.
As always, a peep at full size is recommended!!
This little guy and his brothers and sisters come and play in my pool every evening … and every morning I get to scoop them out and spend a minute or two taking pictures while they kindly pose. Then it’s off to the unseen world of tasty bugs and cool tall grasses they go … only to return to the pool again another day, another time … year after year. And so the circle of life continues!!!
Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 60mm Nikon lens on the morning of July 2, 2009. Shutter speed 1/25, aperture f/11.0, exp -.33, iso 200.

Too cute! I LOVE these guys! Love to hold them and let them climb around on my hands – squishy little bodies that they have. LOL Neat photo!
Lois Bryan replied
Ann, I know exactly what you mean!!! These are still at the thumbnail size. Was at my cousin’s yesterday and she had two floating around, slightly larger. I wanted to get them out of her pool before my grandson (age 2 1/2) started paddling around … and boy was he ever fascinated to see them in my hands!!!!!! It was a such cute moment (camera in the car of course, lol!!!)

Thanks so much, Von … I am completely amazed at the difference in image quality between the two cameras. As to the lighting, I agree … Mother Nature’s sunlight can’t be beat!!!! I’ve got several other froggie shots, probably better composed, etc., but the lighting just isn’t happening the way it is here.

Hi Sweetie!!!!! I’d love to see him!!!! The ones around here are pretty fast unless they’ve just been rescued from a night of debauchery in the pool!!! When i first get them out they’re usually pretty docile.

Quote Lois – ‘they sing .. they eat mosquitoes … and sometimes turn into handsome princes’
Now im sitting here laughing my socks off. I am called a frog by my wife, but she would say I am definately NOT a singer, Im not a mosquitoe but AM a bug, and turn into a handsome prince….well, Im laughing at my wife’s tears running down her cheeks at that one. The morale of this message, I am not called frog anymore, Im now UGLY BUG !!!!!!!!!!
Lois Bryan replied
LOL!!!!! Hey Ric … sooo glad you got a kick out of that!!!! And you don’t look like a bug to me!!!!!! But we do wives tend to know best … soooo … I’ll yield to your better half’s wisdom!!!!
Ric Alexander
:-O Im going to live up to my name ( bug). Im after a gorrila-pod camera tripod, Those things are awesome, they cling to almost anything, So time to bug my better half ( well my wallet is on skid row after the camera and lenses LOL).
Lois Bryan replied
OOOO .. I know I’m going to have to start thinking of a decent tripod myself, much as I hate the things!! I’ll have to look up the one you’re talking about!!!!
Wayne Cook
Dang! These leaves are so slippery! This so friggin cute!
Lois Bryan replied
Hiiiii Wayne!!!!! Aren’t they just the most adorable little critters???
Paul Wilkin
I love your frog series Lois. Great colours and lighting and the detail on the creatures is superb!
Lois Bryan replied
Thank you so much, Paul!!!!! I think this one is my favorite … I really liked the light!!!
Ric Alexander
QUOTE ‘OOOO .. I know I’m going to have to start thinking of a decent tripod myself, much as I hate the things!! I’ll have to look up the one you’re talking about!!!”
They are only small things but easy to carry, Ive heared excellent reviews on them. they cling to lamposts and railings and all sorts. Might look a bit odd if there are people about though hehehehe.
Lois Bryan replied
Well, I don’t mind the odd looks, just don’t run me down with your car, is all i ask, lol!!!!! I really don’t like tripods, but I think a good one would really make a difference!! Let me know when / if you get yours … I want to hear your review of it!!!
Tibby Steedly
Beautiful shot of this little guy clutching the leaves and waiting for the morning sun! You are AMAZING, Lois!!
Lois Bryan replied
Thank you, Tibby … this is my favorite, too. The light just makes such a difference, doesn’t it???
Ric Alexander
Lois, Bought a slr zoom version and I luv it, Wrapped it around a street light on the cul-de-sac last night to the amusement of the neighbours who now think ive totally lost the plot. Will be getting it to the waterfall walks maybe this weekend> I know its not good if you want to stand up and take shots unless you find something like a rock to land it on, but it does allow easier photos in certain places over a full tripod. I would say take the camera to the shop if you can, put it on one of these and see what you can do with it. I love mine !
Lucindawind
hes so cute :) fantastic !
Lois Bryan replied
Hi sweetie!!!! Thank you so so much!!!
Prasad
You have made everyone smile here, Lois. Wonderful series.

Robert Elliott
lovely capture
Lois Bryan replied
Hi Robert, Thank you very much!!!!
Ginny York
It’s so cute that they keep coming back Lois!! How lucky for you! Great catch!! Maybe you can catch some insects too!! :))
Lois Bryan replied
Hi Ginny!!! Thank you!!!! Funny you should say that … last year was the year of the butterflies and damsel flies and dragonflies and skippers … this year … hardly any and I’ve been so sad!!! I do have one shot of a toad, though, that you’ll get a kick out of if I post it. He’s sitting in a lily with several small tiny tiny fly-like things coasting around in there with him. And by the time i finished the shoot, no more tiny fly things!!! In one of the shots, he’s DEFINITELY eyeing one of the bugs … and in the next shot, the bug is gone!!! ROFL!!! One can only assume my little toad had a snack between frames!!!
Arrowman
The lighting together with the water drops are superb !
Lois Bryan replied
Hiiii Colin!!!!! Thank you!!!! Of the froggie series, this one is probably my favorite … the sunlight and the camera were both behaving nicely … as was my toady buddy!!!!
