Oh jacqi, you’re soooo right!!!! The story of the town has haunted me since I first heard it!!!! The story goes that when we’re having a drought, you can go out onto Triadelphia lake (which is actually part of the Patuxent River, so not really a lake at all) in a small boat and look down and still see the town. It was mostly made of stone, so, I imagine it is possible. There’s even a wonderful house in the area made from stones from the old buildings there!!!! We have a small canoe and have been out, but never when the water is low enough to see anything.

The azaleas here always blossom around Mother’s Day, so it’s a madhouse on weekends. It’s like a fairyland!!! And yes, the Triadelphia story really haunts me … we have a small canoe and have gone out on the “lake” but of course, don’t know exactly where it is … plus, we haven’t gone out when the water is really low … but maybe someday!!!

Thank you, thank you sweetheart!!!!! This whole area is fenced off … the deer here LOVE azaleas. We planted a good part of our front walkways in azaleas and for the first several years, we couldn’t figure out how they kept getting SMALLER!!! ROFL!! The few that are left, up close to the house, we call Bonsai Azaleas because of the weird shapes the deer have eaten them into!!! But here at the gardens, some of the azaleas have been there so long they’re taller than a full grown man!!!! It’s glorious!!!

Dawn, it is a magical place!!! I went back three days in a row (imagine three days with glorious sunlight back to back!!) ... and during the week, I was practically the only one there … I felt like a kid in a candy store!!! ROFL!!!

I talked to the people who manage the place and suggested they contact the local schools. there is a graduation requirement that so many hours of public service be performed … but I don’t know if they followed up on my idea.
