Yipes! Stripes!
BEST VIEWED FULL SIZE!
A belly-shot of the crocus in our sunny front yard, Saturday. The good news is, they’re still there .. the bad news is … has something happened to all the bunnies and the deer who usually chomp these flowers off at the stem every spring?? Well … maybe they just decided to raid someone else’s pantry – garden this year!!!!
Image taken March 22, 2009 with the Nikon D40x and the 60mm Nikon macro lens. Shutter 1/60, aperture f22.0, exposure -0.33, iso 200.
The crocus blossom is approximately 2 inches top to bottom.

The bunnies and the deer in question have spent the winter in the Caribbean this year. Critter Airlines has had some delays as of late so they won’t be able to make the lunch date in your lovely garden…sorry Lois maybe next year.
Lois Bryan replied
Ahhh Von … that’s really such a disappointment!! Well, I guess I’ll just have to get used to having my flowers last a couple extra days this year, then!!!!
ccwri
Gorgeous shot Lois! you must have sent all your deer, and rabbits my way! lol They are munching here daily! lol They really have done havoc to my Tulips, and Tiger lilies….maybe some will survive….smiles…I caught one just yesterday eating away, and snapped a shot or two…haven’t loaded them yet. Have a great day! xoxoxo Carolyn
Lois Bryan replied
Hiii Carolyn … I’ll have to HOP (get it? get it? nudge-nudge!) on over to your place and see if you’ve got those bunnies uploaded yet!!! OO … I have a funny tulip story!! Years ago I planted gorgeous red tulips on either side of my front porch. They were glorious!! I went out to get the paper one morning and .. to the left of me … tulips. To the right of me … the blooms had been nipped right off … all that was left were the leaves and the poor, headless stalks!!! ARUGH!!! Sooo … I feeeeeel your pain!!!!!

KcranmerArt
Lois…I adore your delicate eye!! I couldn’t take a pic of a flower if my life depended on it, and here you are giving me inspiration!!! Your close ups are always so flawless, beautiful and elegant…just like you my dear!!
Lois Bryan replied
Thank you, thank you!!!!! I’m sooo honored!!!!! Here’s the trick for floral close-ups … easy peasy!!! Get a macro lens … I use the 60mm, but there are much fancier ones out there. I used aperture priority and kicked the aperture pretty narrow (I used f/22) and let the camera choose the shutter speed. I think I did that .. sometimes I use manual, but I think I was on aperture for this one. Then, if your hand-holding and not using a tripod, take several shots because with the narrow aperture, the shutter speed will be pretty slow and very sensitive to camera shake. Also, sometimes I find I have to use manual focus on these close shots. There!! Now … go on out and create a masterpiece for us!!! And thank you again!!!!! Hugzzz!!!
