Took the long way home from the grocery store again yesterday evening and went by this lovely old barn. As the shadows grew long, I noticed the light was doing that magical thing it sometimes does. So glad I had my camera!!!
Image taken on March 7, 2009 with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter 1/640, aperture f/5.3, exposure -0.33, iso 400. Post processing included removal of some power lines in Photoshop and a trip to Photomatix.

Dave Potts
looks like a great place to hang around and relax…nice shot Lois.
Lois Bryan replied
Dave … you’ve got me laughing .. I don’t know how much relaxing is done here by the owners, but i sure enjoyed my few minutes here with my camera!!!!!! Thanks so much for your visit!!!!!
Curtiss Simpson
Wow Lois my kind of life LOL this is beautiful love the warm colors and light. The lone way home paid off, outstanding !!!
Lois Bryan replied
Thanks, Curtiss!!!!! The funny thing is, I’d been gone for a couple of hours … once I get into town I usually run several errands at once. And when I got back into the car after this shoot, my cell phone was ringing … my son … “where are you?” OH how I didn’t want to admit I was out barn chasing again!!! ROFL!!!
Rick & Deb Larson
What a beautiful old barn (bet there’s lots of stories behind those wooden walls) and beautifully captured!! Take Care, Hugs from the North Deb :)
Lois Bryan replied
Hiiii Deb!!!! Thanks, sweetie!! The thing is, this barn is snuggled all around now by homes. : (( Not subdivsion, tight-packed, but dotted here and there. So much has changed now since we came 20 years ago!!!

MICKSPIXPHOTOS
Beautiful capture, Lois. The evening sunlight lit this just right and you captured it perfectly. Well done.
Lois Bryan replied
Thanks, Mick, dear!!!! Oh it was a gift!!! When I left the house a couple hours earlier, I was so irritated with the light I nearly didn’t even bring the camera. We had had a high cloud cover and the light, while strongish, was all nasty white and glare-y!!! As I stared for home I was so thrilled with the gold light … that was why I turned off and went down this country road!!! WHEEE!!! A gift!!!!
Heloisa Castro

This is a jewel. Capturing the texture on the barn, the rust and gold tones striking yet not oversaturated. The trees in the background almost look like smudges of smoke. First picture I looked at of yours and I am ate up with the jealousy Lol!
Lois Bryan replied
Christine, sweetie, YOU are the jewel!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!! Darling girl … I’m glad you picked up on the fun look of the trees … this time of year .. right before the buds pop that whole fuzzy thing is so cool!!!

richiedean
lovely evening shot Lois, low Sun, long shadows and rich colours …..... :))
I cant help wondering, what it looks like inside, with its high roof and the sunlight bursting through the gaps in the planking ….......... any chance ?
Lois Bryan replied
Oh, Richie .. how wonderful that would be!!!! I don’t know the owners … but might ask around. The families of some of the people in my church have been in this area for generations … they might be able to get me inside … if not this one, maybe another. The trick would be, though, getting inside with the right light OUTside. The day i shot this one, the light changed from yuk to yummy so quickly … then it was like this for only a short period of time before it started to get dark. Well … anyhow … it is a great idea!!! One i definitely should pursue.

Jing3011
Grogeous shot. This barn has such a wonderful shape
Lois Bryan replied
Thank you so much, Jing, and I agree, this is one of my favorite barn styles, too. I’m probably way off base, but I think this was originally a tobacco barn. They used to hang the fresh leaves from the ceiling on long poles .. you’ve never smelled anything as wonderful in your life as tobacco drying in a wonderful old barn!!!!
eran gilad

UnEasy
This takes my breath away! I want to live there. I just know there is a white farmhouse nearby, with only fireplaces for warmth, and quilts handed down generations on the old and comfortable beds. This photo writes that narrative for me, invites me to dream. Thank you so very much :)))
Lois Bryan replied
Thank you so much … bless your heart, you are probably right about the quilts … there is a lovely farmhouse right there … in fact, the reason the barn is so far to the left is as much to clip it out as to do the rule of thirds thing. This whole area now has newer homes popped up here and there … and very likely all the property was at one time a part of this farm. Such is life in the outlying Washington DC metro area.
Ronald Rockman
Excellent Image,well done
Cheers
Rock
Lois Bryan replied
Rock thank you so very much!!!! I’m honored that you enjoyed this one!!!
