The Caddy Shack

Featured in Sets of Two February 23, 2009.
Featured in Dimensions February 16, 2009.

There’s a golf course not far from where we live. I’ve been stopping by lately to see if anybody interesting is floating around in the little pond. Not much luck, so far, but the evening winter light hits this little shed, which I’ve laughingly dubbed The Caddy Shack, so nicely.

Image taken on February 4, 2009 with the Nikon D40x, using the 18-200mm VR Nikon lens and the cp filter. The camera was on shutter priority at 1/400 shutter, aperture at f/5.3, exposure bias at .33 and the iso was on 400. Yes, the Canada Goose off to the left was added from a shot taken on a previous visit. So he was, technically there, just in a different time. Looking very closely, you’ll see two more hunkered down, also on the spit of land, to his immediate right … as well there are geese to the immediate left of the shack. These guys were really there in the moment I snapped the shutter on this shot. Oh, I’m getting confused again!!!

For me… its nice to see that the snow gone in your neck of the woods, Lois. I know you cannot wait for Spring to get sprung. The lighting is splendid.

  • Lois Bryan replied

Hello darling!!!!!! Oh, our snow here in Maryland isn’t nearly as bad as so many other parts of the country. When we go up to PA to ski, of course, we WANT snow!!! It got quite warm up on the mountain this weekend and all the skiers were quite glum, lol!!!! I have other shots of this little spot with snow … and the light and reflections are fabulous … just a bad angle. They’ll take some tweaking before I upload!!! I think I’m a lot getting pickier as time goes by!!! Such a delight to hear from you!!!!! Hugzzz!!!

No snow! We still have piles of it. Always hate this kind a barren time of year. It’s so much prettier when the grass is lush and green and the trees are all green with leaves! But the sun shines nicely here in this photo and the shack seems appropriately placed for the time of year. Good job. The goose is aptly planted too.

  • Lois Bryan replied

Hi darling!!!! Yes, the winter has its own beauty … i adore bare trees … and when the light is just so, the grasses are golden and marvelous!!! I took shots of this little shack the week before … in snow … which I need to play with a bit, then will upload as a set. I’m sure our snow isn’t gone for good yet. We’ve been known to get some doozies in February and even March, here in Maryland. Hugzzz!!!

  • Lois Bryan replied

LOL!!!! It’s a goose, but who’d know?? Actually, there are several … only one of which is actually sorta kinda just in a different time zone (rolling eyes at self) ... yes, the wonderful early evening light actually pulled me right off the main road when I drove by … and I’ve been going back frequently ever since. So glad you enjoyed this one, Lori!!!!! Hugzzz!!!

  • lorilee

    lorilee

well since you gave it that title I had to take a look - and of course another brilliant low winter light photo - the geese add a nice focus point. Now you see I was a caddy and spent lots of time in a caddy shack - even went to college on a “caddy” scholarship – so thanks for the memories - dave

  • Lois Bryan replied

Oh, WOW!! Who knew there WAS such a thing!! How cool is that!! This is a golf course .. so you think this is a caddy shack?? I was just guessing, lol!!!! Yes, the low, late day winter light is not to be resisted … glad you liked it!!!!! And glad you approved of goosie, too, lol!!!! Hugzz

Super warm and beautiful light in this! An instant fav for me as well! Nice to see a fellow, featherd Canadian in the shot ! lol! I live under a migratory flight path here in my part of Canada- Norwood Ontario- so the geese are constant, lowflying, huge in number and very loud…but I like it! lol!
    Gorgeous shot here!! :]

  • Lois Bryan replied

Hi Tracy!!! Thank you!!!! You know, about 20 years ago Canada Geese were almost unheard of in this area. Now, they’re everywhere there’s a quiet lake or pond. Some people think they’re a nuisance, but I adore them!!!

  • maremarie

    maremarie

This is wonderful, with fabulous warm light!!!! That shack looks great in the picture with its white colour…. I wonder why the light always seems a little softer, yet more “glowing” at the same time in the USA…. oh, and Germany has hundreds of thousands of Egyptian Geese, which weren’t as abundant 20 years ago, either! :-)

  • Lois Bryan replied

Thanks so so much!!!! You know, there’s something about afternoon light in winter sometimes. It makes even the simplest scenes magic!!! And what is with all these goofy geese? LOL!!!! Thanks again!!!!!
