OUCH!

Lois Bryan

OUCH!

.
This one is really at its best full size … which I’ve included down the page a little ways!

I’m not sure exactly what this was … a house … or a shed? I have a shot of it I took last winter in the snow … and just couldn’t resist giving it another try with the fall colors!! The really funny part … well, not funny … odd … is it’s located at the bottom of a hill … almost like a car caught some ice or something, went a bit airborne and landed smack dab on top of the roof!!! Of course, I’m pretty sure that didn’t happen. Well, you know, pretty sure.

Located in Pavia, Pennsylvania. Shot October 12, 2008 with Nikon D40x, 18-135mm lens, and the polarizing filter. A bit of Photoshopping done for atmosphere. And for fun, of course!!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Hi Karon!! I’m not sure if it’s a shed or little house … but yes, I think it probably did cave in. There are a lot of structures in this particular area in pretty bad shape. So picturesque to my eyes!! So glad you liked the fall colors!!! Thanks so much for stopping by, hon!!!!!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Lynda!!! you are one fast-moving lady!!!!! I uploaded a couple of these and forgot to click the “Hide” button on one!!! Sorry!!!! Glad you like it … yes, this is probably a shed … there are a lot of crumbly structures in this area … all fascinating to me!!!

Lois, this is a very gorgeous photo!!!!!! I love all of the colors and how it looks as though mother nature is reclaiming the building, absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Oh, Ash, you’re sooo right!!! There are so many amazing old tumble down structures in this area, but this one really caught my eye last winter!!! Had to give it another go with the fall colors all around it!! It really does look overgrown in this shot!!! Thank you so much … I’m glad you enjoyed it!!!!!!

So very interesting a view dear Lois.. I wonder if anything or anyone may still be living there.. Good eye..
    Chuck..

  • Lois Bryan replied

LOL .. Chuck, no I’d have to guess not … but it is in an area that’s inhabited. The funny part about the winter shot, that you don’t see in this one, is the giant television antenna … it free standing … right in front of the house … and is about half again the size of the house!!

  • Grumpy02

Nature has it’s way of reclaiming anything we have given up on such as this little building, the autumn colours are beautiful Lois and far outweigh the eyesore of the old building, well seen and captured,
    Regards, Rod.

  • Lois Bryan replied

Thank you so much, Rod!!! Yes, little buildings like this would be an eyesore to most people … but to me, in the right setting … away from the hustle and bustle and expectations of suburban environments, they’re very thought-provoking!! And how right you are about Mother Nature!!! A lesson to be learned there!!!! Thanks again!!! hugzz!!!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Hiiii sweetie!!!! Thank you … well, if you get the feeling you want to investigate more, then I’ve done my job: gotten your curiosity going!!! There are several fallen-down structures in this little town … the window in “Broken” is from another one of them and “Posted – No Trespassing” is just down the road not more than 5 minutes drive. To me, all very interesting!! Thank you for visiting and for your lovely comment!!!

  • Lynn Bauer

    Lynn Bauer

I see that “someone” (with a name that’s real close to mine!) has hypothesized that maybe it was you that landed on that roof in your hubby’s car!!!! I , however, think that it’s much more likely that you’ve been doing some of your ‘happy dancing’ up on that thar roof!!! A little old shack can only take so much, ya know!!! Beautiful shot, Lois! The fall colors and photoshopping are tope rate!!!!

  • Lois Bryan replied

... Sssssiiiiiiigh … well, truth be told, little me had an … um … event with my car and my hubby’s. Um … and … um … no, it didn’t involve anybody’s roof … but there was some … um … crumpling, shall we say, involved??? ... Ssssiiiiiigh … And no, I wasn’t Happy Dancing on the roof either … I don’t know if this poor little house EVER saw any happy dancing!!! But that you liked its image makes me very happy!!!!! Thank you, sweetie!!!!

  • Lynn Bauer

    Lynn Bauer

Sounds like Lyn had some ‘inside information’ on the event with your hubby’s car!!!!! ;-0

  • Lois Bryan replied

    yeah … she did!!! ROFL!!!!

  • Lynn Bauer

    Lynn Bauer

    Too funny!!!!!

  • LindaMcCarthy

    LindaMcCarthy

Incredibly rich and gorgeous! Excellent work, Lois!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Thank you, Linda!!!! I’m taking a class in digital editing and tried out one of the ideas we used the other night. What FUN!!!! This one started out as a bright and cheerful little thing, totally contrary to the subject … I think the method used brought it more in line with the “mood” I was looking for. Thanks again for your visit!!

  • Béla Török

    Béla Török

Dear Lois, I could wach your autumn scenes all day! This is my favorite season and every year I hardly wait for it.

  • Lois Bryan replied

Oh, Bela!!!!! Bless your heart!!!! Hon, don’t encourage me … I’ve got a million more in here!!!! LOL!!! I’ve been trying to mix them up with other things the past few days … LOL!!!! But I’m with you … there’s nothing more exciting in Nature than autumn colors!!!

  • LavenderMoon

    LavenderMoon

Really beautiful, Lois! The Sumac always makes such a grand display every year. I have a few shots of some here. I just have to decide it they are RB-worthy! : )

  • Lois Bryan replied

thank you so much … I completely agree!!! Even in the winter shot I have of this little house from last year, with snow all around, the sumac is still a gorgeous bright red splash!!!

  • Dave Corn

    Dave Corn

Excellent…..........Art and creativity are definately a part of your very spirit…................Wonderful Work!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Oh, Dave .. you’re too kind!!!! Thank you soo much!!!!

  • Joanne Bradley

    Joanne Bradley

What an interesting structure and it looks great in both autumn composition and winter! Thought provoking isn’t it!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Thank you, Joanne!!!! Yes, very thought provoking!! There are so many falling-down structures in this area … one in particular, if only I could get inside!!!!! A real “General Merchandise” store … the shelves still have the cigar boxes … everything!!! One of these days, lol!!!! So glad you liked the two of this one … the first one, in winter, I shot on the fly as my husband drove past, lol!!!!! Hence the not-so-good composition with the bit of road in front. I should try photoshopping that out, come to think of it!!! Anyhow, thanks again!!!!!!!

  • Robert Mullner

    Robert Mullner

Brilliant find…always pays to go back when you’ve got a hunch…fantastic color and effect…love it.

  • Lois Bryan replied

Robert … I’m honored!!! Just had a visit to your portfolio … yeah, I’m honored!!!! Thank you so much!!!!

  • LavenderMoon

    LavenderMoon

Oh I would love to see the red sumac and the white snow… I’ll bet it’s awesome!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Hiiii sweeetie!!!!! Yes, I did put it up here … take a look … top right!!! Since dear hubby was driving when I snapped the shot, I put a Photoshop filter on to disguise the less-than-snappy details … lol … but check out the sumac!!! I might put this one back into PS and play with it a bit … maybe get rid of the road .. maybe enhance the sumac … what do you think???

  • LavenderMoon

    LavenderMoon

Oh.. DUH!! There it is! Everyone around here is always trying to mow it down and get rid of it… I think it’s beautiful most of the year.

Photoshop… hmmmmm I don’t know. I’m so addicted to the more naturalistic approach, it’s hard to say. You can give it a go and see how it turns out!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Honestly, I was very wary of photoshop, but the winter shot here, by necessity, got me going on trying new things. It was just such an incredible light day … I think I shot it in February … and my husband, driving us home, was not about to stop every time i saw something I liked. So when we got home, I was faced with the choice, do something creative with the shots or toss them. So … that was pretty much the beginning of me playing with PS … and I’ve got to tell you .. it’s FUN!!!

  • LavenderMoon

    LavenderMoon

I’ve seen it done.. but I can’t really afford it, so I sometimes use the bare minimums that are in my computer photo program. Maybe one day I will be able to afford it and also learn to use it!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Oh, you’re absolutely right … it’s ridiculously pricey. The one I’m using is from 2003, if you can believe it!! The one we’re using in class is the CS3 … and I’d get the new one if I could afford it … that’s for sure!!! But there’s no way right now that I’d even consider it. In the meantime, YOUR photograpic work is fabulous!!!

  • Clark Thompson

    Clark Thompson

This is a very nice example of the affects of time. It is a lovely location, Lois. I absolutely love those fall colors.

  • Lois Bryan replied

Clark … next fall you must plan a trip to the mainland if only to see fall colors!!! Thank you so much .. this one is another example of me trying new things and having FUN!!! LOL!!! Hugzzz!!

  • Jack McCabe

    Jack McCabe

You got my “Thumbs up” award!

    I can dig it!
