I LOVE the polarizing filter! It is like magic! Such a lovely image! Looks like you could cross over into another time!
Lois Bryan replied
Keeli … thanks sooo much!!!! It was such a fun visit … took me forever down lots of windy roads to find it … then when I did a bunch of people showed up!!! GRRRR!!! But I worked around them!!! Soooo glad you like this one, sweetie!!! Hugzzz!!!

Vickie Emms
woohoo,,,,,,,,,gor-geeous. I would never have to pay the fine cause I can’t walk faster than a walk, lol. Very beautiful picture Lois
Lois Bryan replied
LOL!!! Actually, believe it or not, when I got there a guy in a big BIG SUV (I drive a teensy suv, a Rav4) pulled up and parked right beside me. We both hoofed it onto the bridge … me to check out what and where to shoot, him … I didn’t know. But as I was stretched out nearly flat shooting the interior struts and so forth, I hear an engine running … here was the guy in the BIG SUV … patiently (well, I hope he was patient) waiting for me to get back up on my two feet and out of his way … as he then drove that big thing over!!! Slowly. At a walking pace!!!!! LOL!!!!
Von McKnelly
Such a smorgasbord of color! The Red leaf tree in the upper left gives this beauty a nice balance.
So if one was to jog across the bridge would one have to fork over $5 for going to fast??
Lois Bryan replied
Thank you, dear Von!!!! AHHA!! You spotted the red maple in back left which Mother Nature so kindly put there just for me!!! And I think you could cheerfully jog over … the fine keepers have been gone these hundred years (unless you count the trolls underneath … but shhhhh .. we won’t speak of them!)
SandyK
Beautiful image Lois, love the filter!
Lois Bryan replied
Thanks so much Sandy, yes I think it worked well on this particular shot!!!!

jesika
I really do like these old covered bridges, lovely image
j
Lois Bryan replied
Oh, jesika, so do I!!! I’d seen the sign for this one so many times … and last weekend I was driving myself so had more flexibility to go where I wanted. Took the turn and down and around I went … on and on … and farther and farther from the highway!! There are two more tucked away back there somewhere, but it was getting pretty late, and I still had a 2 hour drive ahead of me. I decided to save the other ones for another time!!!
Renee Dawson
What an AWESOME bridge Lois. It has so much character and I love the angle you shot this one at!
Lois Bryan replied
Hiiii sweetie!!! So glad you like the angle … I shot about a million different angles … each one so different and each one so fun!!!!!

Sandra, you sweetheart!!! Thank you so much!!!! Bedford County, which is where this is located, is actually the same county as our cabin, even though we’re about an hours drive from here!!! It’s an awfully pretty area!!!
LudaNayvelt
Wooooooooooooooooow! Lois, what a wonderful work you done here, orton really stands up here, love it.

Patricia Montg...
I love covered bridges and you did a fabulous job with this capture! I took a bunch of covered bridge pics in central Indiana a few years back where there were lots of them located in close proximity. Is this one in Pennsylvania?
Lois Bryan replied
Hi Patricia!!! OOO … this is my second covered bridge … such fun they are!!!! You have lots in Indiana, too??? Are your shots posted here?? And yes, this is in PA … about 15-20 minutes from Breezewood. I saw an old sign that said 2 more were down the other fork in the road (which I went down for a bit, but gave up and went back and took the other fork, lol!) ... so I hope to catch more soon!!! Thanks so much for stopping by!!!
Patricia Montg...
No, I haven’t posted any of the bridges yet. They are from my film days so will have to find the photo album and scan them to post on RB. I only have photos of a handful of the bridges but there are 90 covered bridges in Indiana and this link will take you to a map that show where they are located.
Lois Bryan replied
Hey Patricia!!! I couldn’t get your link to work, but I googled and think I got where you were sending me. Read the history part … and do you believe I’d completely forgotten they were called “kissing bridges”!!!! So COOL!!! Thanks for the info!!! I think you’re going to have to make some road trips, my girl!!!!!

Lois Bryan replied
Thank you so much, Evita!! What a wonderful compliment!!!
Béla Török
Amazing work dear Lois! The colors are outstanding! Fabulous mood!
Lois Bryan replied
thank you so much, dear Bela … I’ve been told the colors are overdone and unrealistic in this one. I personally like a lot of rich color!!! LOL!!!
LYN EVANS
Smashing angle Lois, you compositions are always spot on. A fabulous capture,
Lois Bryan replied
Thanks so much, Lynnie. This was a lot of fun. I was driving by myself so could really take my time. It was a fun exercise in angles and compositions … I was all over this bridge!!! Glad you liked the one I decided on.
Antanas
Amazing capture
Lois Bryan replied
Bless your heart, Antanas!!! Many thanks to you!!!

What a great old bridge, I love covered bridges, so unique and historical.
Lois Bryan replied
Hi Eric!! They are such fun, aren’t they?? Did you know they used to be called “Kissing Bridges”!!! Isn’t that a hoot???
Paul Gana

Lois Bryan replied
Hello my dear friend!!!! Thank you … I’m so glad you approve of this one!!!!!!
Steve Chapple
The Orton creates such a gentleness here again. Great composition and use of lighting.
Lois Bryan replied
Hi Stepehen … I love the Orton … it seems to lend a little more nostalgia to images that recall the past … so glad you liked it too!!
Arrowman
Lois another piece of outstanding work. I also find people annoying, I uaually ask them to move out of shot. My kids hate it when I do this !
The polarising filter works well here, and the image included showing the history is a brill touch!
Lois Bryan replied
LOL!!! DO you!!!!!!! HAHA!!! Oh you stinker!!! No, I’ve never done that … but have been tempted!!! Actually, since this was such an incredibly out of the way place, I was just amazed at how many people were there!!! Three groups of people besides myself!!! The last group was two couples, both even older than myself … and they were very careful not to march in front of me … very considerate. One of the gentlemen had been there before and I learned a lot from him. I’m glad you like the work the polarizer did … I was afraid it was getting a bit too dark, this is down at the bottom of several huge hills (not mountains yet here) and it was getting darkish early. Soooo beautiful!!
Lynda McDonald
oh i like this bridge Lois,,,,,,,,,,,,it just all works !
Lois Bryan replied
thanks, sweetie!!! There are two more not far from this one that I didn’t have time to find … I may give it a go this weekend. Richard is driving so it’ll mean I’ll have to do some sweet talkin’, lol, but I’m going to give it a try!!! Hugzzz!!!
Beve Brown-Clark
Wow…love this one…very rich and full of depth!!
Lois Bryan replied
Thank you, sweetie pie … I got another one today!!!! All dilapidated, though … think I got a few good shots from the interior … no lovely sunlight though … all cloudy … we’ll see, we’ll seeeee!!
Lois Bryan

Fantastic capture my friend !!!
Lois Bryan replied
thank you so much, sweetie!!! I’m so glad you like it!!!!!
Lenny La Rue, IPA
Wooo! A photographer who really knows her stuff! Nothin’ nicer to find than a learned artist who shares. And another covered bridge to see is always a treat. But with a MASSIVE crack showing on the approach structure, this is a bridge someone needs to prevent ALL vehicles from using until repaired. It would be a shame to lose it just for the convenience of traffic. :-/
Lois Bryan replied
OOOOOOH Lenny … I’m humbled and honored … but a “photographer” I am NOT … bless your heart … just a housewife with a camera and an obsession (and apparently an addiction!!). Your comment on the crack has me a bit worried though … is it the part on the white sideboard, toward what would be the floor??? As I’m looking at it … and I’ll check to see if I have anything that’s a better view … I took tons of pics … I’m thinking this is just a sideboard, holding up the railing. There is VERY little traffic on this thing … the bridge spins off onto a road leading nowhere .. the main road takes a turn to the left here as you approach. But thanks for your thoughts … there’s a mill just to the right of the bridge … I’ve included a couple of shots of it … and it’s my understanding from what some of the people there were saying that the mill is under construction. I could drive over there during the week and maybe catch up with the people working on the mill … maybe they should investigate the bridge a little more. Thank you again for your lovely note .. and OH how I enjoyed viewing a couple of your works!!!!!
Rosalie Scanlon
Great image, wonderful old bridge.
Lois Bryan replied
I’m so glad you found this shot … I really like it too!!!

I echo Lenny’s remarks. And then comment on yours ”... a photographer I am NOT …”—You are far too modest Lois. Your work is brilliant and I admire it greatly. You take photographs of some of the things I love most, much of which I, when out of the control of a studio, can’t quite master. So, bravissimo to you!!
dlmorrow
PS I don’t know why I never saw this one before.
Lois Bryan replied
Hi David!! No, I have to contradict you … I won’t call myself a photographer until I’ve mastered it all … and that includes night photography and motion photography. But that YOU … a photographer of your extraordinary talent … approve … well, you’ve completely made my day. You must know my secret, though … take LOTS and LOTS of shots … start out thinking you know what settings to use … use them … then change them up!! With digital, we have that luxury!! Eventually, you’ll probably get something you can use. THEN .. ooo … all the Fun with Photoshop!!! In all seriousness, I think my best stuff is done in a controlled environment. I don’t have a studio … the technicalities of lighting are next on my journey of discovery … but I’m a whiz bang with a couple of flashlights and some pillows and tall stools!!! Now what self-respecting photographer would ever admit to all that??
dlmorrow
When I started out and was shooting film (b&w) years ago in NYC I happened to meet an extraordinary photographer, Bill Pierce, who freelanced with the biggies like Time, News Week, Rolling Stone … he said when you can take lots and lots and lots of shots and that if you got 2-5 super shots out of a roll of 36 (average for a 35mm film roll) you were doing exceptionally well.
Lois Bryan replied
Oh, David I have a similar story!! When I was in hs, my favorite teacher was Dona Maria, my Spanish teacher. One hot June day, toward the end of the year, she was trying to keep us from climbing the walls (no air conditioning back then) and she showed a slide show of her trip to Puerto Rico. We were all in awe of her incredible photography … she said pretty much the same thing … out of 10, she hoped to get 1 she liked. Must be one of those universal truths!!
