this image was shot with a Nikon D40x using an 18-135 lens. Since I was shooting into the sun, it was put through photoshop and worked on with “levels,” “highlights and shadows,” and “Gaussian Blur.” I also gave it a bit of a cropping and changed the color of the sky from white to blue.

Nubble Light House is located in York, Maine. Photo taken September, 2008.

Oh Lois, you make me laugh so hard sometimes. I have to admit that I quite often have no idea what I’m doing either, but with a bit of experimentation and a little afterward photoshop tweaking I’m able to display the odd image that other people actually like. A toast to you and I – a pair of clueless blondes with a passion for photography. Cheers love. Sandra.

  • Lois Bryan replied

My darling Sandra … I honestly think we are sisters, separated at birth!!!!! Clueless, indeedy!!! But at least we have the courage to admit it to the world, and laugh at ourselves, right!!!! Thank you, thank you!!! I’ve signed up for another photography course, this time advanced Photoshop … I’m either going to love it to bitz or run screaming down the hallowed halls the first night of class!!! LOL!!! Cross your fingers for me!!!!! Thanks, sweetie, for your always adorable and very much appreciated support!!!!! Happy hugs, Lois

Beautiful composition. I am not a blonde, but I have to admit that most of the time, I do not know what I am doing with the camera, either. What is really frustrating is when you try so hard and think you’ve got it right…......andyour shot turns out to be a blurry mess! Then you walk by something, “point and shoot”., and everyone tells you it is “great”! So, I figure the answer is “Just Keep On Shooting”. Your photo is marvelous. Your editing it to be commended also! KUDOS!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Oooooh, yepper!! I know exactly what you’re talking about!!!! As my Daddy used to tell me, “Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than smart” ... and oh, how true it is!!!!!!! thank you for dropping by and for your lovely note!!!!!!

What a fascinating gentleman … I have oodles of gossip now about the whole area!!!! I have several other shots …. that I’ll probably upload at a later date … from a different angle. Such an incredible picturesque place!!!! Thanks again for your kind note and for dropping by!!!!!

  • Lois Bryan replied

thank you, Corina, sooo much!! My husband and I went up the coast into New England over the weekend … lots of places … very little time spent in each … so I got a variety of shots. I’ve always wanted to see the coast of Maine … and this lighthouse was a real bonus!!! Thanks again so much!!!

Just popped in to see what you might have new in the gallery. This one immediately drew me in because we were in Maine in the 90’s and visited almost every lighthouse on the Maine coast, including this one. We saw some of the lighthouses early in the day and I struggled, too, with shooting into the morning sun. Those were back in the days before I had any image editing software, too. With your excellent post processing, this is a fantastic image! Good job!

  • Lois Bryan replied

Patricia … thank you soooooo much!!!! I’m sooo glad you like this one … it was a bit of work … and you know how it goes, you can spend hours on one shot … you just know the beauty is in there somewhere … and sometimes you hit it and sometimes you don’t!!! Sooo glad you like this one!!!! Thanks ever so much for stopping by!!!!! Have a great weekend!!!!!

Lois, I have this picture on my wall accept my niece and her then boyfriend now husband were sitting on the rocks in front of it.. It’s a great lighthouse! Nice capture.

  • Lois Bryan replied

Thank you, Mary!!! We literally stumbled upon it on our fast trip up the coast in September!!! We had no idea it was such a well-known landmark until, as I crouched in the grass on the mainland, trying to get the perfect angle, the caretaker came up and said “E-Yup! This is where all the photographers like ta stand!” ... he then proceeded to tell me how many people photograph this lighthouse!! A BUNCH!!! lol!!!!! I’ve seen other shots of this one … there’s even one floating around the groups currently!!! Tooo fun!!!
